AFAIK X570D4U has no XMP profiles - You will have to dial in the OC by hand so don’t expect much - this is not a gaming/OC board.
There isn’t much info about 5000 series CPUs on this boards so things may be better or worse, you could try PM-ing people who report to have this combo (https://forum.level1techs.com/t/asrock-x570d4u-x570d4u-2l2t-discussion-thread/)
B550 boards are not really ideal for pci-e passtrough in that regards.
Because if the current situation on the iommu groupings on most B550 boards.
Asus WS pro X570 Ace: has a very good vrm.
Only downside of this board is that it is a bit down on sata ports.
And the second m.2 slot only runs at 2x instead of 4x speeds i believe.
But other then that it basically would be a good option.
vrm details: ASP1405i (IR35201) in 6+2 phase mode with double the components per phase.
Which means a 12+2 power stage design featuring IR3555 60A power stages.
Asrock X570 Taichi: Good board with a decent vrm.
vrm details: pwm: ISL69147 6+1 phase mode doubled to 12+2 using ISL6617 doublers.
Powerstages Vishay 50A Sic634 DRmos.
Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master: good board with a great vrm as well.
But that is probably not really a board that you would be looking for.
Because of the additional gaming related features it comes with.
vrm details: pwm: Infineon XDPE132G5G in 12+2 phase mode.
powerstages 50A IR3556.
Those Asrock Rack boards might be interesting as well.
But i have not really looked much into those yet.
So i can’t really help with providing much info on those atm.
The Asrock x570 Taichi is running t topology for RAM. However the Aorus is Daisy chain. I am contemplating myself which is better for my use case.
PS: I am awaiting a 5900x myself and super confused with the motherboard to get. Since in my country I can get almost the same price.
I also reconsidered that I might have this computer sittin in my room, so I started looking into B550 boards, because X570 have active cooling on chipsets and I dont trust small fans to stay quiet.
So my new candidate is: Gigabyte B550 Aorus Master
It has good VRM,
3x nvme PCIe 4.0 directly to CPU,
probably better support for fast memory compared to those Asrack boards,
similar price range as Taichi and Asus WS board I considered initially.
I’ve been running an Aorus X570 pro (non wifi) for a year with no issues using:
4 x 16gb RAM
2 x nvme
2 x GPU
Intel I350 (sriov nic - gives you 28 interfaces)
Lots of people choose this board for pci passthrough (me included)
For 24/7 operation an x570 may be a better choice for longevity than a B550 due to more pcb layers (although this may not matter so much if you are not overclocking). I expect the board to be good for 5 years (I also do not overclock & just enable pbo)
My system runs a Windows 10 gaming vm with VR (stable for days at a time) while simultaneously running a Linux desktop + bunch of LXD containers for development.
I went with the Gigabyte Aorus Master B550 because it has 3 nvme to CPU and has passive chipset cooling.
I updated BIOS before putting CPU/RAM/GPU with Q Flash Plus… the only issue here is that the file on USB must be renamed to gigabyte.bin, this is missing in mobo manual and doesn’t work without this rename (downloaded file from support page has different name).
I like Fractal cases so I went with Fractal Design Define C and Corsair RM550x. It fits just fine with my MSI 1070 GPU. Cables are quite tight, wouldn’t mind more space, but removing the HDD cage helped.
nvme heatsinks were rather hot (don’t have exact temperatures, tested by my finger only:) so I decided to add one more intake fan (14cm ULN Noctua) to the front side of the case… the aiflow now covers the whole motherboard nicely and heatsinks are noticeably cooler (says my finger)
