No Man's Sky: Disastrous Launch

Dude with the GTX 970 you shouldn’t even attempt to bother with 4K unless you want 30 or below FPS

With a GTX 970 on a full loop water cooler overclock to hell even a free-to-play game like Warframe pulls like 40 FPS at 4K

You’re going to want to stick to 1080p on that

Well, i “found” no man’s sky… ’
It doesn’t even load the textures properly. And i have 270X heavily OC…

dog planet … literally half population is with dog head.

Seems to be favoring AMD gpus.

Well played for about and 1 1/2 hours, definitely some frame drops but pretty stable otherwise. Did update to the newest AMD drivers before playing, so not sure what the performance is like without it.

The hype train crashed and burned hard with this one.

I’ve got about 5hrs in it and yes it’s repetitive, but I’m not terribly annoyed by the process.

Hello games should have tried harder to define what this game really is. Label it by it’s gameplay mechanics of inventory management and marginally varied exploration.
Those 4 pillars trailers were very misleading. That much emphasis should have come with more depth per pillar.

Hopefully they made enough money to continue development so this can be fleshed out more.
Not really AAA content here.
I think we’re paying for tech development.

Absolutely. Wendell just said “it looks like the foundation for something big”. And I agree, it might not be there yet but this is a completely new kind of game development. Mistakes will be made, lessons will be learned and the game will develop further. And after what I have just seen on TeamPGP stream I would still buy it the moment it comes out for linux.

Think that is a fair opinion from what i have seen. Think it could be built into something good. But not on consoles

Running Crossfire 290s and hasn’t crashed once. Frame rate is fairly smooth. It has some texture pop-ins but for the most part it seems to run fine for me with everything set to high.

The pop-in is very minimal for me as well. Much better than the PS4 version.

Was playing on my apu ugh frame rates sucked, kind of a grind but I guess that’s survival games

PS: I am currently rendering my video… If you think TotalBiscuit and Jim Sterling are negative towards that game…
PS2: Here it is:

I played it for about 2 hours before I had to go to work. I do get the occasional frame dips and snap in textures but I kind of expected that. It didn’t kill the experience for me. I actually had a lot of fun and can’t wait to play more and explore.

I love just getting lost in the size of the game. Not sure why everyone is so pissed; my guess is that they just expected a different type of game. Just flew my spaceship for 30 minutes towards the planets surface. Why not hyperdrive? Good question! Because I wanted to watch the astroids go by. I chose to. I like that.

Check out the video…

Well yea that’s definitely a good reason to be pissed! lol. Maybe if you got past the initial area it might start working, but kind of hard to do that when you can’t see anything… Hopefully they patch it quick for you! I’ll wait until it’s been patched enough to actually be playable without those kinds of serious issues (game breaking) before I check it out! I feel you though dude!

Thank goodness for Steam refunds eh?

It looks like the game is performing far better on launch on AMD GPUs than it is on Nvidia GPUs. That’s good at least. I’ll see how my Nano fares when I get home.

^This. Absolutely ^This a thousand times and a thousand times again. This is the first time procedural generation has been used this way for something on a scale this colossal. In retrospect I would have been more surprised if everything had gone completely without a hitch. It is kind of annoying that the devs obviously didn’t do any real testing for the PC version. However, it seems to me that No Man’s Sky as it exists now, or will exist once everything has been patched, will at the very least be a foundation for a new kind of game development.

Never mind that it runs like ass on my piddly 760M at 900p, never mind that nearly everyone from TotalBiscuit all the way down the line to little old me has had problems galore with the game. The fact that TeamPGP found at least the game’s concept itself interesting enough to try out was enough to convince me to buy it. For professionals who “don’t game a whole lot”, they have excellent judgement when it comes to games.

I’m keeping my hopes up but my expectations realistic.
