With that comes the option to have it insured. So do enough that it would buy a new machine if it breaks and then some.
Yeah, but they cant insure time spent and any sentimentality. I would rather drive with my rig, or if over seas, travel by boat.
They can for the time spent, and the sentimentality is not a given and outside the scope of the original point.
Yep, alt shipping is an option, but the construct here is YOUR precious is in hand. As well when you ship something out of hand, a guarantee of arrival at your location without any problems is not 100%. Hell, how many people do you know that have checked luggage on the EXACT same plane they are flying on and it gets lost (DERP).
One more level of construct is my WENDELL app. As soon as you let it out, someone else can ... Meaning, not paranoid about somebody ruttin thru my stuff, but, if you take that option away then well sleep better. Like I said this is planning/construct stage therefore as many conflicts should be worked out prior to prototype.
How can they refund time? what if it was intricate custom water-cooled. It could take weeks or months to rebuild. which would be horrid if your going to a LAN party.

Have it insured to arrive in a condition by a date. If either of those are violated, they pay out the insurance.
So? if it's broke you are SOL. what if the hardrive breaks and all your family photos, work/school and porn (jk) gets lost? you cant replace unique photos and creations. Insurance is just money. it does Jack and Shit.

hey why do you guys promote linux so much compared to a bsd or unix(s)? Not trying to hate, I'm running mint on my machine, just why linux out of the pool of non proprietary operating systems?

Well how does the 50 ft tall horse scale? is it just vertical scaling or is it scaling on all dimensions?
if it was just vertical then you could trip it, But if it scaled on all dimensions that would be trickier to kill.

That is Exactly my point with this Portable Rig. One in the Hand is worth all the money in world. I will gladly offer insurance with my builds but the scenario I am picturing is the emotional shot in face moment when UPS drops of your stuff and ^%$*^% (something really bad).

Well then its legs would be huge and could kill you quickly. The small ones can act like piranhas and bite you to death. If your in a forest you would be able to maneuver quicker than the tall horse but thats about it. If you had the little ones you could probably kick them pretty hard and do good damage. I would have to say the 50 small horses. Only because they are the only ones you could kill. The tall one would be difficult to do anything with.
Linux is the most wide-spread, best supported, and has the largest functionality. Linux also has a much more open approach than any BSD distro. AIX, OS X and the like are the only other 'unixs' out there and they're proprietary.
