Hi,
I don’t know if i’m in the right topic.
But here is my problem.
First my network.
I have a proxmox server running pfsense, freenas, winserver2016 and a linux server.
IPS line goes into a router, 192,168,1,2 is my wan to the pfsense.
Wan comes in and goes out in to a managed switch.
All the pc’s and server run great on it.
But one line goes out to a other proxmox server(made a cluster)
Now comes, if i create a VM it will connect to the network and i can use the internet.
Only if i want to eg. install plex and i do
curl https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-keys/PlexSign.key | sudo apt-key add -
echo deb https://downloads.plex.tv/repo/deb public main | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/plexmediaserver.list
or
wget https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-media-server/1.5.5.3634-995f1dead/plexmediaserver_1.5.5.3634-995f1dead_amd64.deb
it hangs, all so trying downloading using a browser will fail.
I did manage to install but i had to upload the file using samba.
Bus after that i could not connect to the plex site.
The local server gets forwarded to “https://app.plex.tv/auth/#!?clientID=6xeb5”
I turned off all firewalls, server, cluster and pfsense nothing seems to work
Check that it’s not a DNS issue.
Yep, that’s how it works. In order for plex to work, it needs to phone home and link the server to your account.
Ok did you open the ports for Plex on pfsense?
Did you do a local connect to the Plex server. ie your.server.local:plexport?
Once you do that you have to sign the server in on plex
Also you have to start Plex kinda like you have to start appache. Definitely want to set it to start when the server starts.
I tried/check DNS
Did find a firewall portforward of port 32400 to my main plex server, but this will be move to the other server and not running in freenas.
I’ll try to set it up once more.
I localised the problem to only plex.
If i try to download a ubuntu deb it will download.
But no way i can get plex to come thru.
I at a lots. isp router has no plex rules pfsense ha no rules for plex. i did add a rule to foreward all traffic
firewall on the clusters are down and also on the VM.
I’ve installed plex by using samba again.
But before opening the local plex in the browser i went out to log on to plex first.
But it even will no open the login form for plex. it hands on assets.plex.tv…
Have the Plex server ping Plex on HTTPS and the Plex port, what are the results?
SSH into the server and ping https://www.plex.tv
I want to see if what happens.
Since the server also cannot wget from the site it seems like something is not right with the route.
To add the port ass :portnumber to the end of the address. Also if you have a phone you can always check pinging from outside your network back to your server.
This will see if the route is clear. Also did you open the port on Ubuntu’s firewall (ufw)?
ping https://www.plex.tv: Name or service not known
ping https://www.plex.tv:32400: Name or service not known
I turned the firewall off in the VM
he is trying to ping, but none of the packages are getting thru. 100% packages lost
ping google.com on that server.
it goes thru buttersmooth 5.2ms
Do you have something like pfblocker or squid running?
squid. but disable-ling it doesn’t work.
I also turned off plex on the other server. also nothing
Can you VNC or remote desktop into the server?
i use vnc.
But i tried to ping plex.tv from the pfsense vm and it also is blocked
it seems like my isp router is blocking it.
I cannot ping plex.tv if i’m on my isp’s router’s wifi
Who is your isp?
Some isps will block email servers so this isn’t surprising.
