Transforming my HTPC into a gaming PC

Hi,

After watching so much of The Tek, I decided against buying a next gen console and instead recycling parts from my HTPC to build not a top end gaming pc, but a decent enough gaming PC.

I sold my Silverstone ML03 case and put the money towards buying an Aerocool DS (Dead Silent) Cube, which is very similar to the Xigmatek Aquila; inside looks identical.

I sold my old Xbox 360 and 7750 GPU and put the money towards buying a 7950.

Everything else was re-used.

Old case tightly packed.

To this new case

Identical inside to the Aquila

7750 to 7950

Parts used in the build

and Wendell for reviewing the Xigmatek Aquila, which helped me deciding what case to go for.

cool!  (please fix the photo links)

Sorry. Links work now, but I can't figure out how to insert the image into the post?

This looks very nice.

Click the little picture of the tree in the area above where you type.

Kinda lazy to take a screenshot right now :P

Will be a nice build, haha what sort of case is the new one? it looks schmick.

Just a reference to OP.

Thanx, tried before it didn't work, but seems to be working now?

Ordering another new part this week, will upload pics once its installed.

Aerocool DS Cube, the Aquila wasn't available in the UK, but this was pretty much the same thing, 3 differences I noticed with this case, 1) it comes with an external 3.5" [which is ready to be used as another HDD mount]. 2) It comes with interchangeable tops, one vented for fans/water-cooling and a solid top. And 3) it has x2 USB 2.0 as well as the x2 USB 3.0 ports. The finish is lovely, it has this soft matte feel to it. Comes with or without window in a range of colour (UK spelling) combinations.

Upgraded the rear stock 120mm fan to Enermax T.B.Apollish 140mm 15dBA, added 2 red led strips, one underneath mobo, the other top of the case facing down against GPU. I am pleased with the look.

Looks like this case can take a fully modular PSU... stay tuned...

Little upgrade already

MSI R9 280x OC Edition to replace 7950

Corsair RM550 to replace old bequiet! (biggest this micro atx case would take)

Samsung Evo 250gb & 120gb SSD's to replace Kingston HyperX 3K 120gb SSD

Dark Rock 3 to replace Noctua from HTPC build

New on the market, 140mm AeroCool DS red LED fan (highly recommend) Enermax moved to the roof.

Replace the stock 200mm

All working nicely

wow that looks nice, bit jealous

Looks nice.  Seems like a lot of sidegrades, though.

sidegrades?

Couple more bits done...

Added Scythe Kaze Q fan controller, made of aluminium, its has a high quality finish.

Stock 120mm

Enermax T.B.Apollish 140mm stacked on top

Replaced solid top with vented top to help exhaust hot air

A better look at my Dark Rock 3

Now this was a fluke, turning the knob to increase fan RPM increased the red LED glow

PS - runs super quiet now

HD 7970 isn't that different than a HD 7950.

530w->550w.  BeQuiet! power supplies are alright quality, and the RM 550w power supply actually isn't as high end as people tend to think they are.

HyperX 3K is very comparable to the Evo.  In fact, they're almost equivalent in both real world and synthetic performance.

Winning. Personally would have gone for the coolermanster elite 130 chassis but different strokes for different folks.
