Top gek. Was referring to myself
Whoopise daisy
You were (and still are) being toxic though.
Iām rocking Nvidia on my linux boxes because I need the compute performance.
Works fine for me.
I think @anon79053375 was hoping to get my attention, but Iām in and out of meetings all day today. I can give you a hand later today if youāre still interested.
EDIT: After a quick look. Iāve got a feeling this has something to do with Wayland. Check if GDM is trying to launch as Wayland and if it is, fall it back to xorg. Nvidia isnāt ready for Wayland quite yet.
Sadly, I canāt get anything past that crazy screen flicker
Canāt switch to a clean console via Control Alt F1 either.
Trying some bios/UEFI changes and a different installation medium.
What distro. Iām thinking Debian, but wanna be sure.
Debian Buster, yeah.
On your bootloader is there a rescue option?
If not, try appending rescue/enable=true
to your kernel command line.

That should drop you into single user mode.
Meeting starting. bout to share screen. Need to drop off forums.
Yeah, I got that far. Removed the Nvidia drivers and got to a black screen
Tried with nomodeset and itās similar to above, but it flickers that something refresh had reached 0.
Meh, just loaded it up:
pstore: crypto_comp_decompress failed
I think the installer blacklists nouveau, does it revert that on uninstall?
Shit. Thatās a great pointā¦ They give that little popup when you install Nvidia now (at least on Deb they do).
Need to figure that out first, probably.
Wasnāt there a big nvidia update recently though? On wayland?
I donāt know. All I know is that nvidia and wayland are about as cozy as that one time there was a porcupine in my bed.
not fun
yea ubuntu rolled back default back to xorg because of this and I can only assume many other reason in the 18.04 LTS release
try booting with nomodeset
EDIT: NVM. you already tried it
@SgtAwesomesauce My rage is quelled, my belly full, my coffee mugā¦ caffeinated?
All is well. Enjoy your meetings
Will keep a diary of changes and updates and if another hit is the result of an Nvidia update, then I will sacrifice to the Aremis Gods and use my RX 580ā¦
Back on Solus, I see!
How are they doing? I havenāt used it in a good year.
Doesnāt like 144hz and G-Sync. Took some work, but itās alright now.
Still on edge (the behavior, not the browser), hopefully this weekend Iāll be giggling about ever having soiled my pants over this.
Haha, yeah. I donāt use gsync, so Iām not really able to speak to it.
Glad things are going well for ya though.
Is there something you need from an unstable dist like Debian 10?
Ubuntu LTS comes with tested nvidia drivers an will certainly be more stable. Plus updates wonāt take you back to the stone age.
I use 18.04 with gnome-session on top. No problems.
