I’d set it manually to 4800MHz. The high capacity RDIMMs are hard to run for the CPU and I’m worried the auto setting might set it to 5600MHz or 5200MHz which might be too much.
If only one DRAM, please install to DIMM_A2 slot
two DRAMs, please install to DIMM_A2 and DIMM_B2 slots
If four DRAMs, please install to DIMM_A1,DIMM_A2 ,DIMM_B1 and DIMM_B2 slots
CMOS RESET:
Then check your UEFI/BIOS is latest release and upgrade if it is not
Then disable AI overclock, EXPO overclocking, etc.
Reboot and make sure it posts
then begin readding RAM
It works fine with 1 DIMM in any of the 8 sockets - I’ve done it before to troubleshoot issues with my own board.
so - should i clear CMOS and then install a second ram stick? I dont understand what clearing CMOS is meant to do here.
It resets everything to defaults and forces memory retraining. If you end up having to RMA the board, Asus support will ask you to do clear CMOS anyway as part of their troubleshooting script.
i understand - but should i add a second dimm to after CMOS?
not immediately
i didnt see EXPO in the AI overclocking
yeah, it’s a binary switch:
If AI overclocking is enabled, then you cannot EXPO as well.
So disable all overclocking you can find,
reboot to UEFI and disable any overclocking,
then reboot to make sure it’s posting again with overclocking disabled
then begin by adding 1 DIMM
manual
switched to manual. I added a stick of ram and it booted but it looked like it was maybe not recongized? Still said 64gigs in the bios
reseat and retry
reset and worked! Then added the other sticks and worked! All 256 being recognized now. Im afraid to turn it off lol
now that you know what works, save a user profile and you can start tinkering.
Would highly recommend running memtest all Thanksgiving if it’s already cased with plenty of cooling.
Passmark, cinebench, etc. to baseline performance.
You’ve now done what we have to do constantly with new server builds. BUT now you have a $20k system for $6k because you fought through it instead of buying OEM.
thanks youve been a huge help!
so i noticed this on boot: cpu fans are spinning but dont see rpm in bios. Idle temps seem fine. 48ish. Around 50c.
noctua fans?
