Could you do all your computer needs in a Browser?
(mark the need, not want. I’d like to focus on if it’s possible, not if you actually want to do it)

Feel free to comment on what you couldn’t do now.

What I need - reading articles, emails, this and that - yes, I can do in browser.
What I want - making my game, playing my favorite games - no, I can’t. At all…

Oh yeah, i somehow forgot gaming. Am at work, so that might be why…
We just had the discussion concerning moving away from local infrastructure for companies. That made me think, that more and more applications move to web-based tools.
After looking at my Desktop, i basically only need ssh and some kind of rdp tool. The rest of my work is now browser based. Which is nice in a portability sense, and not so nice in a “Apps are quick to respond” kind of why.
So many webapps are poorly optimized and run slooooow.

What ever. It just made me think if we are moving away from local applications, servers and maybe even PC’s for work (not at home, to play, game or tinker with) and are moving to a “Just do it in the browser” workflow. I certainly feel like that’s what’s happening to our customers, and to my personal workplace.

Well you can game on stadia on your browser so…

I prefer my controllers gendered.

Maybe if they release WoW for Stadia.

Wax my feminine penis, bigot.

With the Steam controller I can finally caress Lord GabeN’s PCMR nipples.
Has the Stadia controller such a glorious feature?

I can give you at least 20 thousand games, that aren’t on Stadia…

Do you class Soylent as food?

Because I don’t think I’d enjoy that.

Except the green flavour?

I don’t know if anyone ever told you that the ground is not considered food. But the ground is not food.

Gonna do a couple of public polls, one for actual, and one for idealized/desired use, so 1 of 2?

Main entertainment device, like the one you come home from work / jerb / Mall-Ratting and sit down to relax in front of.
Or get home and switch on while you job a few km’s on the treadmill
Or get home, go straight to shed mancave and switch on while plotting to take over the world/ invent the next great machine.
Or get home, take off yr bra and switch on while tidying up after kids and cooking dinner.

Like most common way you actually receive active or passive entertainment?
will post again for what one would like to be main device

seperate but different.

I switch my main PC off every night, (I don’t have a tv/console/radio/whatever)

do you?

  • Switch devices off every night
  • Leave on all time - they can standby or not, whatever
  • Ensure it hibernates/goes to standby, but must be ready to rock at any notice
  • :vampire: Hssss, what is this electricity you are inferring/alluding to? :zap:

Let’s say I don’t switch it off during the night, but when I am not home, as in when I am at work or when I am outside with friends (as if I have friends)… But if I am home - the PC is ON…

PC gets turned off.

RPi stays on.

Phone stays on because it’s my alarm.

Consoles go on sleep mode because I want those auto updates.

With S4 power state I don’t see a big reason to actually go into S5.

Switch (as in network switch) and SSD based NAS stay on.

Okay, you got me…

I was thinking main entertainment device, not every device in the house…

But I was not clear enough, and so far, the Internet is not disappointing me at pointing out my omission…
