New Years Resolution Thread '20-'21

2020 is at its end!

Hope we all had a good and safe Christmastide as it comes to its ceremonious end tonight it’s time to focus on the New Year. 2020 is finally over. Seems almost unreal eh?. So it’s time for new years resolutions. I’d say 2021 looks bright eh? So it comes time to assess what we learned and what we want to do in 2021.

One of the biggest lessons this year can come in the form of health and how mental and physical are totally interconnected. Its important to consider that a healthy body also equals a healthy mind and vice versa. 2020 definitely gave me it’s own set of challenges and growth. Lots of emotional growth came for me. Hard humbling lessons on the personal front about how to not only cope with my own hard times and stress but handle another’s properly (specifically someone I love). To always provide the better perspective on what seems like a setback and make it progress. Now it may sound cliche but sometimes you just have to persevere and believe!

Example

Positive: If they are down because they feel they failed something. Take another goal they achieved and tell the person how proud of them you are. Tell them to try again. Offer to help.

Negative: the cliche “I feel that. F that… forget it. Let’s get drunk or do something dumb”

Trust me on this one the positivity makes a world of difference when someone is down and it brings happiness to yourself knowing you changed their day for the better

I’ve learned the lesson that giving into negativity and associating yourself and others with it not only brings down your morale but also your support networks morale. It leads to nowhere good. It can make you fall short or possibly never attain your own goals. So take the hard time as a lesson learn from it and come back from it all the wiser.

Goals are important!

Goals give us something to aspire to and work towards even when we are down. Its important to have goals whether it be a 5 or 10 year plan or something short term, maybe something more grand and long term.

What are my goals for 2021?

Professional:

  1. Pass the FE and become an EIT
  2. Start studying for the PMP (project management certification)
  3. Pull together and solidify some goals with IEEE
  4. Start assessing path to P.E and PHD (Electrical Engineering - RF Comms focused)

Personal:

  1. Focus on total improvement of my health
  2. Form a healthier relationship with stress (through excersise && seeking support when I should)
  3. Finally see again someone who means the world to me :see_no_evil:

What are your goals for 2021?

Getting married in Oct so going to focus on saving money and physical fitness. Been running a fair amount but need to add full body workouts despite small apartment and no gym (for now per covid).

Need to reduce drinking to achieve both fitness and financial goals.

I can recommend yoga to you. I fu***d my body by only sitting and not moving enough for the last 10 years or so.
Because of that a lot of muscles and tendons are shortend or very tight. Which lead to chronic lower back pain, stiff shoulders and headaches every day etc.
My Body was in a constant alert state and I wasnt really able to relax.

I started doing yoga about a month ago. My chronic lower back pain got way better after two weeks and 2 to 3 times training per week .
Currently I am using the app down dog for everyone who is interested.

They have all programs free atm until the end of january 2021

For everyone who is willing to try yoga here a two Tipps.

Don’t round your back if can’t reach your feet in a certain pose. Just bend your knees and keep Your spine straight.
Don’t expect to make great progression in terms of body flexibility if you just started. You can’t heal 10+ years of sitting and moving wrong with 6 sessions of stretching …

Also my ability to cope with stress greatly improved after I was able to relax again.
