Need some help overclocking my AMD-8120

Okay well I figured out about the locking down cores. Now when I OC my cpu still running 8cores seems to be unstable at a lower speed and my ram is reading at a lower rate then what it should. Could I get some help?

Hey I was wanting to know if any one could help me lock down my cpu from 8-core to 4-core. I just think I would be able to get more power and higher speeds out of it. If this is possiable plese tell me how, and if it will indeed up the power and speed? Thanks.

Oh yea I have the AMD-8120 do you think it would be worth the money to move up to the new AMD-8350?

erm... you mean the 8350? if you editing video and stuff, get the 8350, if your gaming, get the 6300.

Well I'm doing both and alittle bit of 3d graphic designing

I knows its possible, thats how they beat the world record... but I cant seem to find out how they did.

Could I under clock the last 4 cores and over clock the first 4?

You can turn off cores. If you turn off cores 2,4,6, and 8, you will then have a quad core with unshared resources as opposed to a oct-core with 2 cores sharing resources. With an over clock it can yeild better single core performance as the single cores are not being hampered by sharing resources and thus have greater overclocking potential. You would do this in the BIOS, but your mobo has to be able to support this functionality for you to be able to do it.

well, the share resources aren't really a prob, as amd put a helluvalot more of it. since your doing video stuff, get the 8350.

Is the 8350 that much better than the 8150 because if I'm going to upgrade my cpu I was going to also grab a new mother board and ram. Is it worth spending the money?

I wasn't recommending he do it, I was simply answering his question about locking down cores.

well, you don't need a whole new mobo just to upgrade. you will see a 10-40% improvement depending upon the application.

I wasn't meaning to criticize. I was just saying that , at least for cache, amd put mor resources in the modules than intel has per core, but i'm not sure about the rest of it.

and it's good to know that you can do that, and it's a good idea while gaming to at least downclock those cores

Should I downclock them using an application like AMD OverDrive or in the BIOS?

The next step up from that *below* which is about 4.15 ghz it blue screens in windows after I login

From what I see in your CPU-Z Validator, your core voltage is set too low. It will be more stable with a higher voltage however, youtube/google the right voltages so you don't overheat your processor. IMHO, 1.425 sounds like the correct voltage for that processor. Do your research though.

Thanks

No matter what I do I can not get the voltage up

Not even in bios? Hmmm.

I looked up your bios. If this is what it looks like in OC Tweaker thn you can change your CPU Voltage to 1.4250-1.4500V. I would start at 1.4250 and check stability. If unstable move in increments to 1.45. I have the FX-8350 and its at 1.4640V right now. The 8150 shouldn't need more than 1.5000V

liquid helium bitch

oh yeah haha, you'll need more than just your average liquid coolant to get anywhere near the record. Liquid helium/nitrogen.
