I am new to looking glass and am having some issues.
Firstly, I receive the messages:

and only see the looking glass logo in the client trying to connect again after having quit the client some time ago. Does this have to to something with the Windows session locking out or something?
Secondly I was having bad issues with the mouse cursor. It seems the speed of the mouse in the looking glass client as well as “outside” on the desktop is different e.g. when I position the cursor in the client on the left side of the screen and move it to the right, after going half the way to the right side the cursor of my “desktop” mouse already appears on the right side outside of the client window and takes the focus away from looking glass. To be able to reach an item on the opposite side of the clients window I move the mouse, the mouse leaves the window, and I need to reenter the client window area again from the opposite side.
Lastly after shutting down the VM I cannot reconnect using looking glass. I have to remove Spice and QXL and start over the second monitor again. After readding the devices I can connect using looking glass again.
I am thankful for any advice!

You should not be using QXL at all. Set the video type to none. Looking Glass is not compatible with virtual video devices due to the way that Windows handles the primary device and capture.

I will provide them but I need some hint where they are. Also do I understand correctly that in the context of Looking Glass the host is the Windows VM with the server application and not the machine hosting the VM Windows guest.

I would suggest updating to Beta 2 RC4, it has been released.

Changes since RC3:
The host application can now install and run as a service removing the need for PsExec or a scheduled task to start the application.
There is now a NSIS installer for the host application which installs the service and will handle seamless upgrades without the need to uninstall prior versions.
The host application now runs with High scheduler priority
The host application will now stop capture and go to sleep if there are no subscribers (clients).
The host application no longer opens the log file but instead shows it’s location. This is to prevent the elevated process from being abused to run processes as the SYSTEM user account.
The client framebuffer copy spinlock is less aggressive preventing CPU stalls on some systems due to starving the system scheduler.
Installing the spice guest tools no longer breaks mouse support.

I see, when I first installed it yesterday RC4 has not been released yet. I did an update and will try it out. It is really awesome that I am now able to see the login screen properly.
I did fix the issue with the mouse not being aligned with the window as described in the FAQ.
The issue that I am unable to reconnect has also been resolved with version RC4.
One issue I encountered is when using fuilscreen mode my mouse is sometimes not able to move all the way across the screen. Sometimes in 2560x1440 fullscreen it keeps stopping around 5cm in front of the screen edge and I need to wiggle it a bit until I am able to move it all the way to the side.
This happens sometimes. While in full screen game view, I usually just turn on capture mode (push Scroll-Lock) which grabs the mouse exclusively for LG, then there are no position errors at the edge of the screen. You can also re-sync the edge calculation by either moving the mouse pointer fully up-down-left-right (which you did), or toggling capture mode (Scroll-Lock on, then off).

Another thing I noticed in your host log is that you are passing-through a AMD RX5700XT. AMD GPU’s suffer from a design flaw called a “reset bug”. They will sometimes not wake-up correctly after a VM reboot and you’ll end up with a black screen until you reboot (or suspend) your whole system. I have a AMD RX580 Sapphire and as long as I don’t reboot the VM (I.E. only do proper VM shutdown), I’m OK, but YMMV. Current recommendation is to avoid AMD GPU passthrough and stick to Nvidia GPU’s.

Thanks for the tip! I will try it out. Since you seem knowledgeable, please excuse my noobish questions, can you please explain to me how I can figure out if the looking glass refresh rate is keeping pace with the rate at which my GPU can provide new frames? Is there something like an FPS counter?
Thanks, but I am aware of that. I bought my 5700XT since I wanted one of those shiny new AMD cards and learned of the reset bug shortly after. Luckily the patch is working with the model I have. Since I use Manjaro I have the first version of the Navi Reset Patch baked into my Kernel, thanks to the nice devs over at https://forum.manjaro.org/ .

Turn on the FPS display in the client: ./looking-glass-client -k
UPS is how many updates per second are coming in. Note it only sends changed frames, so to see if it’s keeping up you need to run your game/application and see. Static images like the desktop will have a very low UPS as there is nothing much going on.
