Evening all. I wanted to create a post demonstrating what I feel is pretty strange behavior I’ve observed. I think L1T and a few other channels whose videos I regularly watch are experiencing some heavy-handed shadowbanning of comments. I don’t think it’s driven by these channels directly - rather probably just some bad YT automation? It’s one of those surreal situations when you’re trying to determine if it is affecting you, but I wanted to post an example that might even be highlighting it:
This first picture is from the Comments section of the latest L1T interview regarding Tailscale - it’s a great video btw so check it out. I’m not salty my comment isn’t garnering interaction from other users, but it’s as if other people can’t even see them at times. It’s one of those feelings I normally shrug off and go back to more pressing things.
However today I was receiving notifications for other people’s comments on this ‘comment tree’, and when I opening notifications and clicked on YouTube, it took me to a very different looking screen:
I just wanted to make a note of it in case @Level1_Amber or anyone else wanted specific documentation of this strange behavior. I’ve experienced something similar before with YouTube, and it’s entirely possible all of this is in my head. Anyway, have a good one if you made it this far into my post!
Right, so it’s not just me. Hilarious that the nonconstructive post stays and mine got scrubbed from the video. That’s wild - how could they do this to me? My profile photo on there has a beard!
To be clear Amber I don’t think it was a L1T action - possible just some automated YouTube garbage going around hiding your viewer’s comments. I mostly made this as a FYSA and just in case someone like TryTwice could also see my posts missing.
FYI, YouTube itself is the typical culprit for disappearing posts. They have an extremely user hostile algorithm that just steamrolls comments automatically. Before I moved to just using freetube as a front end, I’d regularly discover comments I made just plain gone, regardless of channel. Now my “engagement” is a big fat zero.
As a bonus, I can now also sort updates by new. Honestly, fuck google.
You can leave 3 very separate well thought out comments, all addressing different things in a video with timestamps, automation will delete the oldest. ALWAYS.
Just a side note.
It could be a video asking for help solving a problem and I drop a link to my (or somebody else’s) YOUTUBE video that answers the question perfectly… auto delete.
Hanlon’s razor states the following “Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity or incompetence.”
However in YouTube’s case they clearly hate me. My a/c simply cannot post virtually ANY comment without it being deleted or more nefariously Shadow Banned. I can see it, but log out and view the comments and boom it’s not there, the same when someone else checks if they can see the post.
I would have far less of an issue if there were warnings or reasons given for comment deletes but there simply isn’t. Instead YouTube are actively/deliberately ‘Gas Lighting’ people who’s views do not conform to what they deem as ‘the truth’.
I personally think there should be class action lawsuit for this behavior on their platform. It should be illegal as it’s a backdoor assault on Free Speech.
I just tried to leave a comment on a video to point someone to the channel “Threat Interactive” to check out a rendering thing, but nope. Eaten by the algo because probably the channel name contained the word ‘Threat’?
Meanwhile I’m reading comments from lewd bots. Why even comment anymore? Time to return to read-only as usual…
The more time that passes, the more I’m convinced that was never true, and the saying was invented by malicious people as cover for their malice, so they can go right on being malicious under the guise of “oopsie”.
I have definitely expressed a lot of wrongthink on youtube, and many, many comments that are in my comment history aren’t there when I occasionally cruise back through and click to see if someone replied (I do not allow any sort of notifications or emails). I get very little response most of the time, even on smaller channels (not surprising in videos with thousands already), but it’s not wholesale, because occasionally I’ll still leave something spicy that gets a good amount of response.
I wonder if certain youtubers with an admitted propensity to shadow ban for disagreeing (that I’ve absolutely tripped) has any kind of global weight to ‘the algorithm’ for you outside of that channel.
I don’t believe the staff running YouTube has the required competency to orchestrate its current malicious state. Instead, it’s a rather massive service with a now-ancient infrastructure saddled with a legacy of compromises and short-sighted business decisions. That doesn’t lend itself to empowering creatives or supporting communities around them - instead, it’s the ‘best we got’ at the moment.
I only created this thread because I’ve noticed sometimes my comments on GN and L1T whizz completely by, as if I spit into the wind.
Telling the story of shooting someone who tried to rob me at gun point is threating violence now. Some retard reported that and another retard signed off. Fuck acccountabillity.
Then the part about not being able to do shit on any of the site because some political horseshit. They’re going to motivate some god damn violence treating people like they do.
You know there are people, judges even, who think statistics of justified shootings matters for arguing whether people (as in everyone, as a whole) should be allowed to carry? Shit argument, easy to logically crush of course. Just an example of the political motivations at play. People who shouldn’t have any extra authority, are too stupid to even make sense while trying to sway political landscape.
