Huhhhhh....the gtx 1080, 70, or wait til AMD takes off their pants?

Hit me with it..............

AMD's cards will most likely take the entire rest of the spectrum of performance, other than the highest of heigh end. Where you can find heavily overclocked 980Ti, performing on par with 1080... If you already have 980Ti there is no point in upgrading. Just overclock and you will get basically the same results...
Amd is not expected to have GPU, faster than 1080 until October, when it is expected to release Vega. Otherwise :
Amd for everything below 980Ti performance wise, 1080 from EVGA or whoever, because Nvidia is basically riding of people with the price of 700$...
PS: amd will show what they have literally 4 days after 1080 is on the market... Are you people that inpatient?

If your looking to buy a $600 graphics card in next couple months, the 1080 will probably be the go to. I would recommend only buying a custom pcb and cooler card, as the Founders Edition card has thermal throttling problems. AMD has said themselves that Polaris is a mid-tier architecture, so I would not expect to have a direct Gtx 1080 competitor out of AMD until we see Vega launch, and we do not have any concrete information for when that will happen.

What's your budget fam?

pretty much agreed on this. if you're on a budget ... wait ... if money isn't really an issue when it comes to gpu's (mainly used for gaming) 1080.

i stick with amd and i will wait (sales on 'older' cards, wait for prices for the new ones) , because i need value for money, not the high end stuff, fastest there is etc.

to each their own.

off topic... Techpowerup has conducted a poll, asking people what is the most important thing in the next generation of GPUs, and the vast majority have answered performance per dollar.

Nvidia own 77% of the market... So yeah... I am not sure they understand value for money correctly...
Just an off topic rant... sorry about that...

There isnt realy much to say about this.
simply because nor the GTX1070 nor any of the AMD cards have been released or tested yet.
But if money isnt an issue, and you simply want the best performance at the moment.
Then the GTX1080 is obviously a no brainer.

no i get it, but certaiin people's budget only goes so far. so i do get a 1080 could be good value for money, just that it is a big chunk of money to spit out for lots ...

then again... spit out 6/700€ for it or get a 3/400€ one...no one ever really knows how long a gpu 'will do' because new stuff is always coming out ...unless you have like a magic glass ball that predicts the future of course. reviews can guide, and i like them taking into account different budget ranges ...but eh... time will tell, then again, it won't...always part gamble isn't it.

No it's not...

HAAAA

well i kinda was looking at a 290 ...

(as i have a 270 but might upgrade after my bday this summer. so waiting for new amd gpu's .... might be discounts on the r9's...)

Won't have AMD high end gpus until October at the earliest. Polaris chips will be all under $300.

small possibility of polaris 10 beating a 290x so there is that.

I'm still trying to figure out why nvid only just figured out 8 GB VRam.

I'm also trying to figure out why anyone needs anything more than a 380.

because 4K and i like to mine digital coins

Is bitcoin still a thing? 😕

God forbid bitcoin miners pull the same shit with Polaris like they did with the R9 290(x) cards. I was left with PowerColor brand.

for the average joe no. i mine ziftr Coin now "gocoin" i like there platform and the way its resistant to asic miners. therfore its able to be mined by any joe with decent hardware.

pic is from today all coins mined are from a little mining here and there.

The best thing to do right now in my opinion is to stay put and see things how are going to evolve. Or you might take you chance and snag a good 980ti used for a good price from someone that's jumping on the whole 1080 hype train.

I don't believe in waiting. The GTX 1080 isn't even available yet.
With all the hype around the 1080, 980Ti's are going for $400-500 on ebay right now.

Depends...
If it is a month or so - just wait... Not a big deal. You don't want to buy something and have it be obsolete in a week or two. If it is more than a couple of months - them it is up to your personal preference will you wait or do you need the thing now or whatever...

ayy I'm up on the list with the r9 280x. It's a pretty ok card other than the fact that the ASUS cooler has fans that never turn off.
