This has got to be the fastest new topic ever. 60 replies in 20 mins, damn.
Also, noodles, frozen vegies and ham. Good stuff. It’s a healthier version of ramen, because ramen is BS. You can get those ingredients for fairly cheap and they will last a while, depending on how much you eat during lunch.
Coffee makes me sleepy, beside that, tea, sports drinks, milk, (I don’t drink alcohol even if I wasn’t poor) juice, soda, and water what else IS there to drink
Get lunch meat and buns. Make sandwiches. A couple containers of prepackaged lunch meat can get you through a week or two’s worth of lunches. Buns/Bread is cheap. Pack it full of lettuce, tomato, and banana peppers. The vegetables are where you can add a lot of substance thats good for you. The bread isn’t ever going to really be good, but its better then a burger and fries by a long shot. Chicken Breast is always a good one. My favorite is always chicken breast, bell pepper, lettuce, cheese, and a dressing of your choice all stirred together. You have to take the dressing in a separate small container or the lettuce will wilt by the time you go to eat it. The chicken is always better warm so if you have a microwave that helps things. Just to warm it up of course. Cooking it fully in the microwave is never as good.
not healthy if you eat it 2 out of the 3 meals a day, I’m swapping out the fast food for banana’s
no prep time, saving me 90$ a month, don’t have to spend my lunch driving to fast food joint and back, full of sugar instead of salt, seems like an improvent so far
Eh, some noodles/pasta are semi-healthy (we’re talking dried stuff). Not all though. Most are made of extremely processed grains which isn’t that great. But compared to ramen, which is usually fried it’s better.
Depending on how you cook too, remove a lot of the junk like oil and salt, you can get something even better. Toss in soy sauce (asians) or w/e you like.
well that’s the point of finding something better of fast food or awefully refridgerated spaghetti
and when ever I don’t fix spaghetti for work
I don’t have any money because it all goes to fast food, I can’t be spending 2-3$ a day on fast food Plus the gas it takes to drive there and back to work
I like to think you’re intelligent but the amount of idiocy in that statement is beyond belief.
Don’t spend that money on fast food. Use it to buy real food. You can eat a hell of a lot better and have more variety and still save money each month.
well I didn’t encounter this problem until recently because I had the freedom of making spaghetti at my last job so I didn’t have to think about how much fast food really cost
I’ve only been living on my own for 2 years so forgive me if I don’t exactly have this down pat it was living with your parents and then tragedy strikes and now your homeless and you only have your self to go on
I used to make rice and mix some eggs into them. Fairly healthy and cheap. I will say though, I was hoping for more ideas in this thread. When I had a home and a normal job, I made many types of casseroles. They are as cheap and healthy as you choose to make them and are reheatable for the most part. Right now though I drive trucks for a living, don’t have a home to return to (ie can’t go home and cook for the week) and have limited refrigeration capabilities. I have a 12V cooler that can keep things cool, but isn’t consistent enough to be trusted with things like dairy and eggs. I was really hoping some of the brilliant minds on here would have had actual recipes and maybe even some that someone like me could use. I mean I deliver the stuff to grocery stores for you to use.
I apologize for the misfortune you have had. It is understandable in that situation to not know what to do.
The thing is though, it is 2 years later. You need to start thinking about these things. We are trying to help you. We clearly know a lot more about shopping, prices and cooking than you so we are trying to give you advice but you seem to not be interested. Also, I don’t believe how anyone could possibly eat one thing nearly everyday and be okay with it. I also don’t understand how anyone could think bananas could sustain you as a daily meal or why you’d buy that many at a tome when they spoil in a few days.
I think you need to take a step back and examine your life. Look at your income and your expenses and write a proper budget. Think long and hard about what you’re spending your money on and what you should be spending it on. I think you have your priorities a bit out of order. You need to also examine your quality of life and your happiness as well as think about long term implications. IIt may be hard to do and you may not want to but it needs to be done.
That is all difficult to do but you don’t have to do it alone. I’m sure there is someone in your life that could help you with these things. If not there is always the internet and this forum.
Seriously, I know I came across as angry or not understanding or fed up, and that it seems like I’m talking down to you, but really myself and I’m sure a lot of other people on Tek Syndicate just want to help you out. You’re a cool guy gig. You’re nice and helpful. As ridiculously silly and sappy as it sounds we are people and we like to help each other out.
make tacos? ground hamburger, letuce, cheese, shells of your choice. all you really need, you can add ingredients if you’re feeling wild and have some quarters to blow haha. Not the healthiest grease wise but it’s got a few food groups in it. Personally i’ve never had to worry about grease/fat my metabolism is insanely fast. Still healthier than fast food.
This thread has made me a little sad to be honest… However, it did remind me of something…
Many many moons ago, only a couple of months after i joined here… Myself and another member (who i believe has since moved on) started on an “un-official” Tek Syndicate cookbook of sorts on my google drive account…
Its fairly bare at the moment, but with a little work could really be a great resource for some (if not all) members of our esteemed community…
Soooo… If anyone is interested, ill see if i can dig it up, create a thread for it, and people can PM/ post in recipes to add to it??
I’m an extremely picky eater, but who knows, I might see something appealing in this cookbook i’d love to take a look at it, should link that thread into this topic.
I am taking it into consideration and I can’t really stand eating the same thing everyday for the past 2 years but it wasn’t always spaghetti at first it was oatmeal and beans, but eating 3 cans of beans a day is not good if your around people a lot (gas lol) and oatmeal, I might have conviction to eat the same thing everyday but oatmeal leaves something to be desired then it finally evolved into spaghetti
I did make enough to occasionally order a pizza every now and then but I also had free shoprunner delivery and super cheap coupons
at the moment my last apartment complex did some shady things and I (along with my 2 other roommates) own them 1900
I also don’t have car insurance even though I’m legally supposed to, I also don’t own a phone or have service
normally within the past year I’d get pizza or chicken and rice with orange sauce or other normal food more often
but I have a lot of expenses some I didn’t even mention included so that’s why I’ve cracked down on fast food
because I realized it was big part of my budget (or not in it rather)
I’ll look into juices, I’ll check lunch meats out but I REALLY need to stay within like 15$ week now with all these new expenses, I know that doesn’t sound like that a hard budget to work in but I REALLY pack away the food
