First time trying this stout and its not to bad actually. I am at a party and out of the 5 people who tried only me and a mate who is an cambodian international tried it liked it while the others spat it out. Yes I am above the drinking age in AUS to drink (18 to drink). Don't worry there was adult supervision at the time then of tasting this ;)
Anyone else tried this and liked it the first time? Any reccomendations of this kind of stout. Going to try Coopers soon since its common here.
Ps . I am only a party drinker when my parents or relatives aren't around after a minor food poisoning that my family gathering thought that I drank 'too much' alcohol at one time.
However, I find anything from Cooper's to be pretty good, I really love their pale ale. James Squire's Jack of Spades is really nice, although that's a porter. I'm not sure on the difference between a porter and a stout though. I only drink dark beer in winter though
Glass not a cup! lol It's okay though. Honestly first time I drank Guinness was from a warm can my friend had sitting around...it was pretty gross. A few years later I retried it properly and it was actually my favorite for a while. I think I prefer a black lager to a stout though, it's got that dark flavor without being so heavy. Not that I don't still enjoy a stout.
Another decent Irish beer by Guinness is called Smithwick's. It's a red ale not a stout but goes down easier. Just like everyone else was saying get a draft whenever possible.
One day try compare it to the bottled "original". This is one of my go to defaults if I have to buy from a supermarket shelf or don't have the option of getting a draught from the tap.
Yeah Guinness is one of my favourite beers. I prefer draught over original. It is quite popular over here in the UK, and especially Ireland, it's place of origin. It really needs to be drunk from a glass though, due to the widget.
if ur from aus try: 1. Knappstein 2. Vale Ale -IPA -stout -and their ale 3. balmain pale ale - little bit fruity but clean, good beer 4. feral hop hog 5. white rabbit (all) 6. Mountain goat - lovely - especially the steam ale./ hightail ale etc. and do an awesome series of limited release beers throughout the year too like triple IPAs etc 7. Murrays Angry Man ale 8. Endeavour - pale and golden 9. Wicked Elf
International beers that are easier to find (but of the better kind) 1. Chimay 2. Karmeliet 3. Leffe 4. Duvel 5. Sierra Nevada - like a lot of their beers...
ehhh a list off the top of my head, but easier to find "boutique" beers that are def worth working our way through :D - if you try any, let me know what you think (or if you already have). Also if there aresome you find let me know! :P
Try Murphy's it is a another Irish stout but a little better. If you can find Yeti, an American stout give it a try. I know Yeti gets sold internationally. Other than that I don't know the Australian beer market well enough to know what is available.
Edit: Lefthand (Nitro) Milk Stout is fantastic and they sell that internationally as well.
Double Edit: Samual Smith Oatmeal Stout is a very yummy British Stout.
It's a nice drink; not much like a cool creamy pint when you're in need. If you're in Ireland sometime try Beamish too. Asking for it in place of Guinness might make you look like a bit of a pro too if you care (though many places wont have it out of an odd loyalty to one brand or another).
Guinness on tap is the only way to go IMHO!!! I love Guinness and though I have had it in a can (and bottle,) having it on tap in a nice pub (The Night Jar in Ferndown, Dorset UK is a nice pub,) is by far the best way to enjoy!
Good beer is meant to be drank from a glass. Bring your own beer glass to a party. Have you tried a good IPA India Pale Ale? I recommend Bell's Two Hearted Ale. Stout is not my thing. I like highly hopped beer.
I was lucky enough to have my first beer in Ireland. And I drank from the Guinness there and it was magical. I buy Guinness from shops around here and its okay but not as good as the source. But congrats man! Glad you liked it.
Guinness is a wonderful beer however, more or less my go to. I'm not much of a beer drinker to be honest, more into sprits, but when out at a pub Guinness is my choice. On draft really chilled it is great...
Must say I have never saw it in a bottle, although not really looked in supermarkets but will keep my eye out for that!
