How so? If anything, they helped convince Sony to port games over to PC. Having another game store on its own is the very definition of competition.
Their program runs like absolute trash, but I’m not going to say no to free games, specially if you dont need to provide any real personal info

You don’t need their program.
I use legendary on the command line. There was another project which added a GUI on top of Legendary, haven’t bothered to update for like a year 
Control and other games still launch fine.
I’m on Win10 and have to use the CLI only for downloading. After creating a shortcut it just worksTM.

I remember them needlessly snatching Metro Exodus into a timed exclusive game.
Tencent also owns a significant chunk of it (40%) and by extension the CCP can indirectly exert undue influence on it whether it is content-wise or under the hood code-wise and since the vast majority of all games are closed source, we may never truly know any of their shenanigans.
So no I dont like them. But its hard to fault school age people if they have an Epic account. It is free and it helps keep the internet and games in general, piracy-free.
