Don’t know if you are a bot, but this whole post stinks of ChatGPT.

“It’s not just X, it’s 1,2 and 3”, sprinkle in some m dashes — and you get yourself a strong ChatGPT stench… tech enthusiasts can smell that a mile away.

I wont dispute that it feels like chatGPT – but you can take my emdashes from my cold dead hands.

not a bot (probably)… that isn’t saying much, though

Hi folks, I can see that many of you have a few concerns about the contest’s authenticity. And I’d love to clear any confusion.

  1. I am certainly not a bot. I am an account manager working with Qomma, a small brand studio based in India. We’re working with Synology India to run this campaign within the country, and wanted to reach out to local enthusiasts on L1. I explicitly asked the admins for their permission to post this contest here.

  2. Twitter does say that em dashes automatically imply ChatGPT, but we are a team of professional writers, and we absolutely love our em dashes! I have seen my colleagues use them in handwritten notes too

  3. While sharing internal documents may not be possible, I have attached a screenshot of a Synology executive sharing this very contest post on LinkedIn, just to show you that the contest is indeed in partnership with Synology.

I hope this clears up any confusion, and we can expect more participants to fill out the form, so that we can quickly ship them their units!

For any other query, feel free to email me at p.mishra (at) qomma (dot) co

Bot or not is not really the issue. The farming of ideas, social media posts, and other personal data is what I’m betting most folks here have issue with.

Extensive use of bullet points, very formal writing…

  • I guess we will face a lot of our own turing tests in the coming years,

  • to the detriment of people writing legit stuff and forum community in general.

  • It’s just nextgen-spambot we know for decades and the arms race just has to catch up to then enter the next round eventually.

I don’t need a f****** vendor-locked-drives-NAS btw.

see the difference?

It’s interesting that the one like on the clarification post is an account that was created here to solely like that post (judging by timestamps and activity). Could that be a coincidence … sure. Either way this whole thread is sketchy at best and predatory at worst.

There’s no such thing as a free lunch.

This user did ask if it was okay, and I okayed it for two reasons:

  1. we have a LOT of audience in India (hey, hows it going!?)
  2. it is actually affiliated with synology

It might seem a little sus, but for givaway-in-India, it seems fine to me. Do we know for sure if these models are locked down to just synology hardware? I thought at first it was just the higher-end and enterprise gear, but it might be everything now. I get it on the enterprise side, but have trouble understanding why there is not a “known okay” list for the less-than-enterprise stuff.

According to the Synology website the DS925+ do require synology branded drives now as well.
