Epic/Psyonix issue refund to macOS/Linux Rocket League players

I bet it runs better with proton after moving to DX11.

Most likely.

Ideally Apple would have “invented” Vulkan, then everyone would be happy

So looking into this, I am not sure how well the refunds will go through, but it seems like you are going to have issues with the refund regardless, I am assuming Valve has some way of tracking that you either bought the game “exclusively” or “primarily” for Linux, some people have had success by manually opening a ticket with Steam with quite a bit of back and forth quoting the dev’s word in order to get a refund.

All in all, it doesn’t seem that reasonable to refund the game when it is like $20USD and is often 12USD or under thanks to sales/humble bundle.

While the principle of the matter is nice and all, you are likely hurting Steam more than you are hurting Psyonix. This is likely due to Psyonix getting compensated by Epic’s treasure trove, but you are probably hitting Steam’s bottom-line as they may have to refund the cut they took also. You also have to take into account that Valve has to allocate support resources to this entire matter which is only adding cost on top of them.

If it was me, I would not refund it anyway since the game should be playable on steam via proton.

I will say that is one thing I was glad to see is that they didn’t appear to have any issue against players using those types of compatibility layers unlike other companies cough EA cough

That said it is still not the same as having a native client.

Well, Easy Anti Cheat may be on the horizon if they go with Epic Games Store exclusivity, and Epic won’t take Feral on as a port manager because they just want any opportunity to say that Linux doesn’t have games.

This could be very misleading.

They claim they get 80% (idk the actual number) of their support tickets from linux/mac players

So using the “active player base” phrase means the number of linux/mac ppl should be much higher… meaning there are issues and most of the linux/mac ppl cant actually play (hence the # of support tickets for issues.

hacks basically dont exist for RL, theres no reason to implement EAC.

But it’s Epic, they’ll find a reason to.

that doesnt make any sense especially when the reason to cut support was a financial decision.

lack of vulkan support in the version of unreal they use iirc

to be clear: they did not refund me directly.

they gave me steam money
