You can mix repos and install software from sid or testing if you need something in particular.
True that. I’ve done so in the past. I wanted to keep this install as clean as possible, so neither testing update nor mixing repos (apart from the needed evolution from experimental).
Though i certainly feel the itch to upgrade gnome to 3.32

Oh, i did. With KDE, and XMonad, and i3, and Gnome, and awesome, and … After having it installed on my work laptop, it lost a lot of it’s charn. I love it at home, but at work, it’s making me less Productive (personal problem).
In the end, Debian now feels like coming home from a long road trip to Arch. Not exciting or new experiences, but warm and cosy “I know where everything is”.

It seems like they also have the cinnamon desktop fully supported.
So i’m kinda curious how that will work out on debian 10.
Since it did not really work well previously.
The only distro till now that works well with Cinnamon is either Mint,
and i believe the Manjaro spin seems to be reasonable.
Of course there is a Mint Debian edition that works really well with the Cinnamon DE.
But like Debian itself it’s in pretty slow development.
Isn’t Mint Debian edition still on kernel 2.x?

Have 3 pc’s and those of my family running fedora, i’m too invested to switch fully. Still might be fun to install it on my server since it would be more set and forget. Also have some quirks on that system annoying me that i haven’t been able to solve.
Tbch I don’t use cinnamon because I do not like gtk3 so while this is a good thing I largely remain unaffected by its development. However I will say they have polished the MATE development more. It still lacks compiz if one intends to use that it will require install. I don’t use it so that’s fine.
Cinnamon is a fine environment the thing is. I think its aim is at users who want a traditional windows like experience.
Anyways as I have gotten more versed in Linux I’m starting to find that I do not mind slow development. Quite frankly despite Fedora being fast and bleeding edge both Fedora and Debian are largely install and forget distributions which is kind of nice. Less time plucking the strings of the OS and more time doing what I want to do

Just a little follow up:
Firefox did, in fact, update itself today from 64 to 68 on restarting the Browser. So, no need for any fancy scripts or units.
