I would love to have the 24x 2.5" for my server at home… I have bare 5.25" bays and it would be put to good use there housing the SSDs (which currently reside cable tied together inside the case… I know I know!).
Just wanna say I love the home lab energy in this thread!!!
Lotta folks hung on to their absolutely ancient antec cases like me because of the bays. We got bays for days! LOL
The 24 bay monster 2.5" adapter would be a perfect fit for my older Thermaltake Case with lots of 5 inch bays which I used for my NAS build. I have a couple of LSI SAS and SATA adapters / PCIe cards I would use with this. Currently it is rocking Proxmox with LCX containers. I plan on running Jellyfin, Tailscale, Kavita and store my media there.
Yes I’m going to build a MAchine of MASS DEStruction around this (as I’m a crappy builder, sadly I have Linus hands) & will post pictures in the forum as I also just found out I have CBD2. (compulsive building disorder) and have nothing better to do. No cure, so be it.
That 24 bay looks fantastic - I’m running an old Intel server chassis with 10x 3.5" bays, and three empty 5.25 bays. Would be great to not have my SSDs ziptied there instead!
I would find a use for either device. I am working on setting up a home surveillance system and could use more storage to store the data.
I could always use more flash in my nas. With a 10g connection and ssds in raid0 that’d make a great networked scratch disk for video editing!
Interested in both. As you can see I have a ton of old spinning rust and an desktop with a 5.25 sled in it. Desperately need to start migrating to sdd and desktop definitely needs a refresh. Either of these would definitely help me start.
Been looking at getting a low powered mini pc to replace my nas and this would be a great addition to it.
24 bay MB924IP-B, would love to put into this and turn it into a silent storage (replacing my current HS-251+). It was my first PC I’ve built 10 years ago, now repurposed(for now) as a headless factorio server. Luckily, it has juuuuuust enough space to fit Noctua NH-P1 in it. No fans, no leds, no sound and no light
Definitely interested in the 24-bay.
The use would be in my homelab, I got a bulk order of super cheap 240GB SSD a while back, and I want to switch my ISCSI SAN from WD Red spinning rust over to flash storage, to help save power, and obviously increase speed testing VMs.
I recently was blessed enough to get approved for a loan to buy my own house, so homelab funding has been mostly cut-off.
I’ll definitely post pictures later if I remember.
Oh boy!
The 24-bay is excatly what I’ve been after. I just got a somewhat older 24-drive controller for my home-server (mostly Storage and some www), get all the different SSDs finally with some order (in an older classic large Lian Li tower). That ICY Dock would be a -perfect- fit for it, since I will have a lot of 5.25 and need a lot of 2.5 SATA. I got rid of all 3.5 and going all 2.5.
Perfection.
Would use the 24 bay for sure and can send pictures of course.
Currently have 4x ssds in a little 3d printed tray in the 5.25 bays.
I have plans to add more SSDs but its not needed at the moment.
I have two of the pretty cheapie eBay LSI 9207-8i HBAs, one currently installed.
Just recently (last night) added a Connectx-3 and 10g spf+ optic in both the NAS and my main tower. Limted by pci-e 2.0 x1 at the moment but new motherboard is on the way. Moving from 4th gen Celeron to an 8th gen i3 and a mobo with a more favorable pci-e layout and gen3.
I recently transplanted my NAS into an NZXT H2 case.
I’ve wanted this H2 case forever. mostly for the hot swap fans & the 3.5 dock on the lid. 3x5.25 bays and 7 or 8 x 3.5 bays. The 12tb in the dock at the top is for “cold storage”
24 drives Icydock, wow…I’d really to to test that for my computer. I use 7 drives…they are over in the computer. Having all the drives in one place seems totally awesome.
I’d use the 24x2.5 dock to slowly convert all the HDD storage to SSD to reduce power consumption and noise/heat. Small apartment life ![]()
Would love the IcyDock 2x2.5 to 5.25" adapter as i have an old Thermatake Supressor F31 case with not one but 2 5,25" bays!
I have old 2500k machine as server, some of the drives are hanging out… so case would work!
Interested in both.
I’d rock the 24 x 2.5! Would be a hell of a caching layer with the right drives
IcyDock 2x2.5 to 5.25" adapter
I am starting planning to expand my homelab setup which is now scattered between three desktops into a nice Threadripper build and the 2x2.5 to 5.25" adapter would be a great addition to the build as I would be able to have either OS or just extra space to be hot swapped without open the side of case…
