So some dude keeps pinging everyone in Gaming channel, I block them and in revenge I get banned from the Discord server, wth?!
I just muted them.

I don’t seem to be banned, but then, I didn’t say anything just muted
I will be cut from the server after a while for nonparticipation though, as they restrict the parts of it to regulars 
The only thing I said was “enjoy block” and today I check and the server is no longer listed, can’t join, ergo I’m banned.

Lounge is more of a social environment where the rest is tech support. Basically short from people’s blogs on here the lounge allows people to discuss things while getting to know the others on this forum more in a friendly way. Where as tech support is 98% of the forum. You do not usually discuss feelings, or things that friends do.

If you post in the lounge you are supposedly the troll/a crazy person. That is what I gather. But for someone posting in the lounge since 2013, I would say the staff here do take certain trolls/political talk seriously, when it derails the lounge.

Why does this person have the power to ban someone? Isn’t the L1 Discord official or who runs it? I am out of the loop on that but I thought Sarge said something about making it more public or something?

I think it is a mod or something.
The crowd is much more like the PGP games crowd, instead of forum, but there is some crossover.
Pll is mod over there, and a few others similar, so it is a different style.
Yeah, sarge is basically top community admin, and there are staff with leadership roles
The ping in particular, was in the gaming channel, of a techtubers discord, so already not what most members were expecting.
And it seems they really want to push community gaming poll, on all members regardless of what they visit for.
Those of us who lurk, and are only interested in the tech side, have been fairly warned we need to actually be involved to keep access to the channels
Which is fair; it is a community server, for the community, and it makes sense to have some areas specifically for regulars, in the way we have off-topic for regulars.
Totally understand that side of the change.
I am annoyed at the ping for everyone regardless of gamers though, but, once pinged, it can remind one to mute the @ (no spaces) everyone ping.
I had forgotten to specifically expect abuse of the ping, and so was slow to rectify it.
And to be fair, it will encourage some lapsed members, to get involved again.
Better an active server than a dead one, and active leadership, than an absent one.
Just seems my views, and theirs are not in alignment, so I will probably thank, and let my permissions slip away to obscurity
I am not gonna flame the staff for annoyance, nor cause a fuss.

I am also, not only disappointed, but outright angry so many places move their communities to a proprietary platform of a US company that does give a shit about their users data. I thought we knew better but apparently it’s too convenient.

The ban was for the response, not for the block.
I remain of the opinion it was heavy handed, but they have the permissions to set whichever example they think best suits their server
I also am unaware of any other messages around it, or warnings, or durations of any bans
