B60 SR-IOV support emerges in latest Arc Pro drivers (7 VFs)

Howdy gang,

Just used igsc to update an Asrock B60 Passive to the latest firmwares, and now I see SR-IOV:

Haven’t actually tried to use SR-IOV yet, will do that later, but it now seems to be there.

Enjoy!

Not really a good time too buy a new GPU but id love to see how it goes

Intel GPUs are not too bad still… In Europe the B50 is still <€400 and B60 <€700; barely higher than their lows.

If you live near a Micro Center, they currently have the ASRock Intel Arc Pro B60 on sale for $649.99. Unfortunately, you pretty much have to live near a store to take advantage of it.

As tempting as that is, I can’t really justify building an entirely new system right now just to take advantage of the sale.

I took advantage of this today and picked one up. So far so good. I passed the whole device through to a windows VM and installed the latest drivers and firmware. After a reboot sr-iov was available.

Running Proxmox on a Supermicro SYS-2029U with an X11DPU. No native resizable BAR support so I used the UEFI ReBAR project to add the DXE to the BIOS. I had issues with MMIO allocation errors until I used ReBarState to set the ReBAR size to “unlimited”.

lspci reports 32GB BAR and I’m able to create up to 7 vfs. GPU-z reports ReBAR is enabled in the windows VM, but the Intel software says it’s not supported.

There might be an issue with power consumption though. Total power consumption at idle is about 20w higher than before when I had both an RTX a2000 12GB and Arc 310.

I’ve enabled ASPM and idle GPU power has lowered from ~30w to ~11w. Total server power dropped ~30w. So I assume there’s some other devices also taking advantage of ASPM.

Have you been able to run seven VMs and split the B60 into six 3D GPU instances? I’m considering picking up two of these for my new Proxmox server—it’s a lot cheaper than dealing with NVIDIA’s vGPU pricing.

Not yet. I have split into 4 and was able to assign those 4 to a pool and use them without issue. I ended-up adding three to the pool and using the 4th for passing into LXCs. Seems to work very well.

I’m able to do 2 x 4k → 1080p plex transcodes at 10x each via the LXC-passed VF.

I just picked up an ASRock B60, updated the firmware through LVFS, and it’s showing support for 24 VFs?

I can create them, but haven’t tried using them yet.

nice, they have card specific firmwares:

which is yours, the asrock creator? i didn’t realise they differed so dramatically.

24 VF’s is impressive, I kinda regret I didn’t wait for the ASRock card, the Sparkle blower has only 7 VF’s, it’s really strange, I would assume they would have the same VF count. If they don’t mysteriously disappear like to B50 VF’s after firmware update then it seems to be a way better card than Sparkle one, at least for SR-IOV ( generally speaking, I plan to use mine for some encoding + gaming + LLM so due to VRAM constraint 7 is ok for me but more is always better ), wonder what other differences are there between these B60’s

I would like to see the B50 get a proper firmware update to fix its issues. I think 16 VF would be awesome but at least 8 VF would be generally acceptable.

Keen to know if any obvious coil whine when under load. Returned my b50 coz it was quite bad.

Hol up, the Sparkle B60 supports SR-IOV now?

I haven’t checked on it in a few weeks, didn’t think it was a thing yet

Got a Sparkle Blower B60 and haven’t experienced coil whine on it, but it could also just be drowned out by the blower fan since it’s somewhat loud under load.

Would hazard a guess that other blower models offer a similar experience.

Yup, it supports up to 7 VF’s now, although you have to have a motherboard with enough MMIO resources to enable them, I don’t, will have to switch to asus, asrock seem to have some BIOS problems with it.

It’s currently sitting in an old ryzen build, so I doubt it’ll work until I can move my B60 to my main desktop lol

Still exciting news though, so much potential for excessive solutions to tiny problems

I wrote to Sparkle support with question about the reason for such a large difference of supported VF’s between their and the ASRock model, and asked if Sparkle intends to increase this number, will report if they respond.

There we go.

I would be very interested if you can get a Linux client (Ubuntu) to use a SR-IOV VF GPU.

The B50, has no problems with Windows clients, however it has clear problems when using a Linux client.
