I’m not sure If this motherboard is bad or I just didn’t really understand concept of SR-IOV? Because if you have network card virtualization that allows you to create up to 128 virtual ethernet cards for passthrough… And then you have to put all 128 virtual ethernets into one VM because they’re all stuck in one IOMMU group then I don’t really understand what is benefit of such hardware…

Would setup flags help? iommu=on

For the Asus one, I can confirm that every single device is in their own group. And for sriov vfs, they also have their own group.

Here is an excerpt with “iommu=pt”, in bios set “iommu” “acs” “sriov” to enabled (sometimes auto means disabled?)

Yeah I have IOMMU support set to enabled and kernel parameter iommu=pt enabled as well (tried without it as well but made no difference).

@wendell did you test IOMMU or SR-IOV on this board during review testing? Have you faced similar issues? Is there any known way to get around that issue?

its not just iommu you have to set anymore, but when thats enabled you get some sub options, aer/acs needs to also be enabled.

I asked support about that and they provided me with information that on VMWare ESXi it works correctly. I booted up ESXi 7.0.2 and indeed it works just fine. I’m able to passthrough all individual devices to all my VMs and it works just fine. I’m also able to passthrough each individual interface from each network card.

I believe it also implies that my BIOS settings are correct. That said I have no idea why my Linux still sees IOMMU groups in such crappy way :confused:

In VMWare I can passthrough almost everything individually.

Are there some magic linux kernel flags that have to be enabled in order to make IOMMU work properly on those boards? I tried iommu=pt but didn’t change anything.
