Installed latest SN770 firmware using SanDisk Dashboard utility. Note: I tried enabling the “Game mode” but Win11 kept crashing, so standard mode it is
Downloaded and installed the “Win11 Auto Installation Program (NetAdapterCx) - Not Support Power Saving” for the RTL8125 2.5 GbE controller from this monster page. Realtek, please fix your website! It is impossible to navigate!
Installed the latest Intel BT and WiFi 6E drivers version 24.10.0, but I disabled WiFi on this server to make sure the 2.5 GbE is being used.
I did some Ethernet driver tweaks:
Disabled Advanced EEE
Disabled Energy Efficient Ethernet
Disabled Gigabit Lite
Disabled Green Ethernet
Disabled Jumbo Frame
Disabled Large Send Offload v2 (IPv4/6)
Disabled Power Saving Mode
Set Receive Buffers to 4096
Enabled Shutdown Wake- On-LAN
Set Transmit Buffers to 4096
Enabled Wake on Magic Packet
Enabled Wake on pattern match
I mostly followed the recommended settings from this video sans disabling Flow Control and WOL. I kept the WOL features, since this is intended as a headless server, and the PiKVM can send WOL packets.
Ok, I have not made any posts because I have been having serious stability issues with the setup + Apollo.
In Hell Divers II specifically, the whole system crashes and reboots once every 30 minutes.
In God of War Ragnarok, the whole system crashes and reboots once every 1.5 hours.
I am not really sure how to debug this. The questions I have are,
Is it game instability? Hell Divers II is rather unstable, and I have anecdotal evidence of other players having similar crashes in Win11
Is it Apollo instability? Is it my Apollo configuration?
Is it Win11 instability? Is it my Win11 configuration (via Chris Titus WinUtil scripts)?
For the last point, I reinstalled Win11 and tried minimal changes via the WinUtil. I am still having crashes, but maybe I should try Win11 vanilla with no WinUtil changes.
I am interested in trying Cachy OS, but then I have to swap Apollo for Sunshine.
Not so sure about Apollo server but given the history of Apollo and that it’s mostly the passion project of a single guy (and adds a million features!) I would recommend just testing out Sunshine on your system. It could just be a bug in that fork of the software (which you should file on github!). You might also want to test Moonlight then, as well…
By the way, is streaming permitted with Hell Divers? I had assumed I’d get banned or at least trip anti cheat measures by doing the local streaming (it’s very similar to how some aimbots work) for any online game. You could test this by running an emulator or an old game from GOG for a few hours.
Check the windows event viewer and look for any errors or warnings from around the time of the crash. Google anything that might be related to apollo or amd drivers. I think windows might also put crash dumps in the root directory of C:\
Oh, most important… have you updated your bios on the 790i… this is a MODT board it could very well be a firmware issue… in which case you would want to check event viewer for sure. Have you tried gaming directly on this machine with no stream just to confirm the thing is actually working?
Wow! I had no idea. I saw some videos online of other folks streaming Hell Divers II via Apollo to their Steam Deck, and assumed all was well. I have no intention of cheating, I just want to game at ultra quality on my Steam Deck
Everytime it came back up from a crash, I combed event viewer for anything suspicious…the problem is that I don’t really know what I am looking for. I always found a critical error, “windows recovered after an unexpected shutdown”. But I already knew that. There were some strange crypto key related errors that kept recurring but didn’t seem related and only happened on the reboot.
