She’s one of the most self-centered characters in an anime I’ve seen. Her motivations are just for selfish entertainment, ignoring what she does to the people around her.

At least this is a common opinion among the ones who watched it.
Haruhi is often seen as “oh, she does what she wants, doesn’t care what others think about her and just wants to have fun”.
She doesn’t realize and probably wouldn’t care how others are struggling because of her.
