[AMD/RADEON] Navi NextGen™ GPU Rumors & News TINFOIL HAT Edition

There is no real hype arround Navi. It is all people attempting to guesstimate where it will land.
Seeing as Sony aims for 4k but previous consoles sometimes struggle with 1080p30, Navi will have to perform a minor miracle.

I’ve just watched AdoredTV’s latest video and updated my charts from above to the following:

navi20_f12018 navi20_fc5 navi20_sniper navi20_sottr

This way, it’s more interesting to compare. However, the FC5 chart is probably wrong^^

I’d normally call AMD assholes for their competitor name mimicking bullshit, but intel and nvidia deserve every sucker punch thrown at them so it’s hilarious instead.

And they actually have a reason (i.e. - marrying their Ryzen generations and RTG generations).

Yeah SURE …

Im so over the rumors since the CES no show but

OK… so its partial troll and partial branding. OK mostly trolling… but it will backfire if Navi doesn’t deliver.

Navi just need to launch at this point. It been cock teased to much.

Its never beating a 2080TI but should get us some better prices on GPU’s and a better open source GPU to buy.

It hasn’t though. AMD has literally made no official announcements, you’re just jerking yourself off to unofficial rumors. No cock teasing going on except what you’re doing to yourself.

Everyone bitched and moaned when AMD hyped up Vega for months on end, so they’ve gone near total radio silence this time around. Difference being is the bitching and moaning continues.

Well then consider my cock raw and Im in recovery. It puts the lotion on its skin or it gets the leaks again !

The PCB supports GDDR6 memory. It can host up to 8 single-sided modules, which means either 8GB or 16GB configuration. The board has 8-phase VRM and dual 8-pin power connectors.

According to AMD’s own product positioning, the 256-bit graphics card are not meant for the enthusiasts. For sure, we are looking at performance under Radeon VII, which is likely here to stay as AMD’s top model.

Whether we are looking at Radeon RX 680 or RX 3080, we don’t know yet.

I really hope this card doesn’t actually need dual 8-pin power… oof!

But having two 8 pins makes things go fast!
Same with having 8+4 pin for CPU power :stuck_out_tongue:

LOL N00B! Everyone knows: What makes things go fast is more RGB lighting!

The snippets of code indicating the usage of GCN are as follows.

Phoronix claims Navi support is unlikely to be seen within the upcoming Linux 5.2 Kernel and may be held back until the Linux 5.3 Kernel release. The current release windows for Linux 5.3 stable is the September release. The Linux 5.3 kernel may be the first Linux kernel bringing mainstream Navi support, and assuming Navi releases sometime between May and July, we may not see much support for these GPUs until Linux 5.3 is released.

We had previously seen Navi being referred to as a post-GCN design, meaning it could potentially bypass the 4096 SP limit of GCN, but this is not the case. In the past, claims have been made that the GCN architecture would require significant tweaks to allow for additional SPs, to the point where a completely new architecture would have increased appeal. GCN had been designed while 28nm was the cutting edge, and has not been tailored to take advantage of the benefits of 7nm.

my prediction:

linux support will be broken without patching for at least a month

it will have the kvm reset bug in at least half of model SKUS

It really seems like GCN is the problem. For generations of AMD cards now the story is basically always the same: Power to performance is fine up to a sweetspot relatively low on both of those metrics. But because they have to keep up with team green, they have to brute force it beyond that.

RTG might be in deep deep trouble…
