1000$ Small Form Factor Gaming PC

Go for something like this if you are gaming and NOT overclocking

780 seems overkill... hoocee i think your build is pretty cool. A lot of people used the asrock z87, does that mean it's the best budget z87 board?

You cant overkill on a graphics card if it doesn't bottleneck especially on a GAMING PC!!!! If your not overclocking the motherboard doesnt really matter as long as it is not some crappy brand, everything fits and it has all the features.

If you wanna z87 mobo this build would be good if you are not overclocking http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2ppMP. i dont see the point of overclocking the cpu on a gaming pc. it is just going to create more noise and heat in the mini itx case in this case (; it doesn't give you much of a performance boost in games (a couple of fps)

Is overclocking something you wanna do cause that kinda changes the build a lot?

i wanna slight overclock, like an i5 4670k to 4.0-4.2 ghz for swag, maybe the gpu core to 1050, a decent water cooler, (h80i for proformance and quietness and small size). I like to sqeeze as much proformance into the money i paid for the hardware, simply put, and i know that i can at least achieve a small dose of proformance enhancement (possibly 20%~) without putting too much extra money.

Smaller than a Prodigy, but has a bit of overclocking punch to it.  Upgrade the motherboard if you want massive overclocks, though.

If you can find stuff on sale, it'll help a lot.  For example, my build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2iyxk

Tower + Mouse + Headset + KB was < $950.  Since then, lots of stuff has been marked up, though.

i still like one of my 3 builds especialy with the R9-290 in it, but the offer you gonne make is a loud reference cooler, if you could stretch the budget, you could also change the gpu to a GTX-780 if you like. but in therms of performance the R9-290, is beating a GTX780 in a lot of games. so  its something to concider.

You should look into the MSI gaming Z87I ac, its not yet released but it is about as good as the ASUS Z87I-DELUXE that keeps getting recommended. people are saying its bad because the Cpu socket is closer than normal to the Pci-e lane slot, but because you are going with an H80i you should be fine. The socket would only have problems with huge air coolers and a Cpu water block is tiny and non intrusive compared to a huge air cooler. i recommend watching these two videos to really understand what this board has to offer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oS4VMBqgF8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUumGNE3yg8&feature=c4-overview&list=UU_SN80_V2GymyCWM2oTYTeg

cough*previous comments*cough

i did like your r9 290 build and the r9 280x toxic. personallly i dislike nividia. i think i might get a h80i so i could put an oc of 4.2 on an i5 4670k with something like an msi z87i gaming mitx, and if worse comes to worse and my budget can only go to 800, i'll get a msi 760 mitx.

I would have gone with the R9 290, but I find it a bit toasty for SFF builds, and they are often marked up in price to around $500 nowadays(if they're even in stock).

//edit

MisteryAngel's builds with the R9 290s and R9 280Xs are out of stock :/.  Dem miners.

Its says that in the TekSyndiacte video I listed and ya Angel did say it in the previous comments and shes definitely right about the air cooler problems. But water coolers are a different case.

Hey just something to consider when you pick out your GPU, the power supply cables may get in the way of traditionally sized GPU's. Nonmodular power supplys should be fine but nonmodular/semi-modular ones may be a problem. Its worth looking at how this guy fit a full sized one in: http://pcpartpicker.com/b/IGi also i found a guy who did use an ASUS 670 itx in a node http://pcpartpicker.com/b/EwW

yeah i saw that it sucks haha

Yep, the Node 304 has some PSU limits.

Preferably 140mm or less for modular/semi modular PSUs.  Otherwise, 160mm will do just fine for non-modular (I have the XFX PRO550w in my node and it works perfectly, albeit lots of extra wires).

Seasonic G550W will also work due to cable positioning.

You can find a build log of my own computer on a different site, as I don't know where the one I posted on this one went: http://www.disc-ff.com/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=3782

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2puIF This one will overclock to around 4.2GHz and has an already overclocked GTX 770 that will fit in this case. It also has a good 128GB SSD. ( ;

Your a fucking moron if you expect a windforce 3 cooler to fit in a node 304. Plus we already decided against the motherboard in your build.

He's actually not a moron, the node fits up to 310mm cards, so you could even fit (I think) a 7990/690! LOL but point being, I think that's a lot better of a build than your older ones. I don't like that 2gb and nividia scent coming from it though... but it's nice! If only you read the comments, which stated me already owning a psu,then I think it is good. I'll keep an eye for r9 290 non references.

oh yeh sorry i forgot u had a psu. i also have no idea why you would call someone a moron before checking to see if it is correct lol. so i see you are after 3GB or more and AMD, cool.
