XPS15 2 in 1 PCIE lanes

Not sure if this is the right place for this, if it’s not let me know and I’ll repost elsewhere

I have a dell xps15 2 in 1 that I’m going to use an EGPU dock for. However I have one last question. I plan on having External storage for games, but not sure if I want to use USB or Thunderbolt external storage.

if it says I have 4PCIE lanes is that per port or total. I don’t want to sacrifice any more bottlenecking on the GPU than I have to, I know going Egpu will bottle neck anyways, so I’m trying to minimize.

Are you asking about:

  1. Thunderbolt and PCIe lanes
  2. EGPU enclosures
  3. USB/Thunderbolt external storage

thunderbolt and PCIe lanes, like I have 2 thunderbolt ports, so is that 4 lanes each, or 4 lanes shared between both ports.

from reading it looks like thats dependent on bios settings for the xps if you have both thb3 ports used it looks liek 20gb/s for both ports and if one used 40gb/s but that one tb3 chain is 6 devices long max just a place thing in the chain and not in both ports
