Xbox 360 ITX case mod

Hey everyone, first time poster here.

Not sure if this is the right place to be posting this but I can't really see where else this would fit in. This is a mod I did on the original Xbox 360 case a few months ago and I thought that I would share it with you guys in hopes of inspiring other people to do the same mod.

I tried to retain much of the original look as possible. This includes using this original RF board for the controller to connect to and power the system, and also indicate system power + hard drive activity. I also re-purposed the original xbox hard drive connector so that the drive can be easily changed without the system being opened. The original front USB ports on the 360 were re-purposed as well.

The system:

Intel Pentium G3258
Gigabyte GA-B85N Phoenix
4GB DDR3 Corsair Value RAM
150 Watt Coolermaster PSU
250GB Toshiba 2.5" Hard Drive
Intel Wireless-AC 7260

There is also room in the system for a low profile graphics card but I can't really justify the cost of it when I can stream games from my main PC. If you have any questions about this just let me know and I'll try to help as much as I can.

Great job, love the clean cabling and the preservation of the Xbox ports for continued use. Excellent build.

I have been considering doing this with a Dreamcast, but the pop-top CD tray makes it difficult to pull off.

Thanks, I was aiming for that original look on it until you look at the back haha.

That would be pretty tough considering how small that case is, I imagine it would be such a struggle to find a low profile heat sink that would fit in there properly.

Yeah and the Dreamcast is a great console and should be preserved lol

I have sources for heatsinks if need be. I also had the idea to rig a 9800GX2 heatsink assembly to fit in there to cool both the CPU and a dedicated GPU. But I might try that in a different circumstance first before tearing a Dreamcast apart.

That sounds like an interesting idea, would love to see the finished product of it.

Want to donate a Z97E-ITX/ac to make it happen? :P

Joking aside, I'll get to it eventually.

The idea has crossed my mind too many times. Originally I was thinking of using an FM2+ ITX base and skipping the GPU entirely in favor of the onboard, which meant I could use any GPU heatsink I liked to cool it. I prefer the idea and challenge of literally folding something like a R9 380 ITX over and sandwiching a heatsink between it and an i5-4690K. (If the Nano was cheaper I'd even give that a shot.)

I like the idea of that type of setup. I can see why you would want to use the 9800GX2 heatsink for that. If you pulled off that mod I'd be super impressed because that seems like like a tight space for all that gear to fit into :P
