I have a B550 ProArt running 4x32GB @ 3200MHz without problems.
I don’t think that running a DDR4 setup on AM4 is much of a problem, I’ve seen quite some builds using all kinds of B550s/x570s with 4x32GB sticks.
I ran 4x 32GiB DDR4-3200 unbuffered ECC in my Asrock X570S PG Riptide before I sold it. No attempts to boost the RAM speed, but EDAC reported OK on bootup, too.
Ram being allergic to running at reasonable speeds with 4 sticks is squarely a DDR5 problem. I have never had much trouble running DDR4 ram at the rated speed even with 4 dual rank dimms.
I built a bunch of CMK128GX4M4E3200C16 on ASRock B550 and X570 along with one MSI B550. It all just worked, though I didn’t into tightening from the XMP profile.
Basically +1, though I did do a 1DPC 2R build that wouldn’t overclock from the DDR4-3200 support bound (others hit 3400 and 3600 without fuss).
No, it’s way easier and hassle free for most folks from what I’ve seen. I’ve just enabled XMP and that was it.
As others said above, that’s mostly a DDR5 issue.
And yeah, I have a 5950x in that setup.
Kind of yes but also no. Vermeer 2DPC support is DDR4-2667, so the DDR4-3200 overclocks being reported here are +20%. The same amount of overclock in DDR5 would be DDR5-4320 if that was a thing.
Instead of complaining about not being able to overclock 2DPC to DDR5-4200 or 4400 attention’s gotten focused on not being able to do the +67% to DDR5-6000. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
