Bupkis. Still blank screens. hence why I’m wondering what causes VGACON and why KMS isn’t handling my displays.
Trying kernel 4.15.2, I’ll be back again.
I’m going to sleep on it. Might have to rollback those libdrm packages.
So the arch wiki as always has some good info. Since VGACON is what’s fucking with KMS, and the only thing in my boot config that has a mention to VGACON is VGA_CONSOLE I’m just going to tell it to not.
#
# Console display driver support
#
CONFIG_VGA_CONSOLE=n
wish me luck chaps.
Nope, still says VGACON disabled KMS
Rolling back libdrm packages wants to uninstall DE and other apps eeww weeee.
Xorg.0.log output gives just a little more insight, it’s loading the radeon driver instead of amdgpu, but I imagine that’s because amdgpu is being disabled by the VGACON

update 2/12
So best I can figure is that VGACON has something to do with QEMU KVM and possibly even my EUFI settings for iommu and virtualization and what not. Weird thing is though, I had a VM running through qemu just fine, but QEMU packages were included in the update that messed my system up.
I found a presentation from redhat on QEMU or KVM that made a mention to VGACON and bad drivers but nothing on what the hell it actually is. Going to try turing off the virtualization stuff I enabled before and see what happens.
Bupkis, Bupkis happened. I’m beginning to think it’s solely related to the driver itself. Guess I’ll check the stable ppa…
Or maybe I already installed arch. Did you know there are terminal based text webbrowsers? Best way to browse a wiki I swear. Mesa 17.3-x and kernel 4.15-2 are mainline now so yay.
