WOW! Just, WOW! (Battlefield 3 Vent/Rant-Review)

So I've always wanted to play Battlefield 3. Thinking it was simply a must-have, and I was aching to play it before it was ever possible since I never had a PC capable of comfortably gaming. Now I've finally started playing the game. Played for a good 6 hours. And at this point. I really wish I could get my money back by how fucking abysmal this game is. I've played Battlefield 1942 back in its glory days, and I am just SHOCKED that these are the same developers. BF Vietnam I also got into during the glory days. Vietnam isn't a popular war, so naturally, neither was the game. But it still had the same mechanics. I have a long history with the Battlefield games, but yeah.

Anyway, on to Battlefield 3. I just really feel that I need to vent on this game's shittyness because of how excited I was to play it. I thought to myself that there's NO WAY this game could be back AT ALL! I thought I'd be logging in HOURS upon HOURS. The screen, and the HUD is FUCKING SATURATED with information, and information that could EASILY be distilled to a far greater extent while letting you know exactly what's going on. Objectives A, B, C, D, etc. Showing you Objective A, followed by text: Closet where the janitor usually drops off his mop right next to the vending machine. Instead of simply showing "A", or "A - Mountain Range", as it SOMETIMES IS.

The Minimap, and spotting. The minimap has got to be polluted with the most amount of information on the smallest fucking area I've ever seen. And to top it off, players are so reliant on the minimap and the minimap provides WAY TOO MUCH INFORMATION for its own good. The last time I checked, in a first person shooter, you had to use YOUR FUCKING EYES to spot things. Not have 90% of the shit handed to you in the form of a red diamond marked on the map, or on the screen. I'm getting killed left, right and centre by what's basically a bukkake session of fucking GUNFIRE!
You can never get a breather, and when you do, it's usually not fun... it's not stimulating playing a game where you're wandering around, hoping to find a proper engagement with the enemy.

And finally, the SHOCKING, INSANE level of pretentiousness and LACK OF PURPOSE in the rather deep weapon customization and weapon functionality. This is a game where people are not only playing infantry, but also in vehicles. MANY vehicles. So it brings me to the question: Why in the FLYING FUCK is there such an extensive list of modifications and ability to modify your weapons so thoroughly, coupled with the need to unlock them that is equally as steep? In Call of Duty, a game I HATE, it at least A: Made SENSE, B: WORKED, and C: Did I say it made sense? In Call of Duty, you would have a steady level of progress in weapon usage to unlock attachments. BF3's weapon customization to a LOGICAL (keep that in mind, 'logical') mind would register the notion of: You would have substantial progress in unlocking weapons per each match. And this weapon customization would OBVIOUSLY have some level of purpose to it. Well, the simple fact is: it doesn't! It FUCKING DOESN'T! It makes ZERO sense. WHY would you implement such a detailed weapon customization system when this isn't the kind of game that exclusively makes use of infantry/on-foot combat? I could see myself unlocking an entire set of attachments for one gun, maybe by the end of this summer? Holy fucking Christ! Battlefield had taken the signature traits of Call of Duty, and has actually managed to give them no purpose in life. NONE! NOTHING. That's like Counter Strike having a goddam team member healing system in the form of a fucking Suture Kit which requires 3 minutes for it to complete. Meanwhile, the bomb at A is ticking down to the last few seconds and your entire team is dead. BRILLIANT! No, no. That TOTALLY makes sense. That's the meaning of logic, folks. And at least if each required amount of kills per attachment was significantly reduced to a fraction, I would probably not complain. But at the end of the day, these are all observations and facts.

I AM PERPLEXED by the fact that the Creativity Cancer known as GIMMICKERY has affected Battlefield now. WOW! Just, WOW!

If anyone can perhaps enlighten me and inform me of the painfully incorrect way I'm playing the game, I'd appreciate it. Because so far, this game looks like it was put together with absolutely 0 consideration for the interconnectedness of almost all ideas/game mechanics.

GG.

Spotting enemies was integrated into the game back, it probably would have been better if it was set on a cool down, like once every 5 seconds instead of just mashing the button the entire duration of the game.
Of course, your friendlies can spot as well, and the entire team is now aware of an enemy on the map.
The entire game is designed to be a grind, from the second you start, you are just a grunt with limited accessibility.
I have never liked the idea of having to grind through the games just to earn a scope or attachment.
Especially when the games can be up to 30 or 40 minutes and by the end you end up with about 15 kills.

I really like BF3 the way it is. It may seem cluttered with random stuff, I get that. But I dont think it really affects gameplay too much. Of course thats always personal preference.

If you really want a die hard FPS game, without all the stuff you described, check out Insurgency. Its a very good game and much more skill and tactics are involved.

I only played it on hard-core.... I didn't like getting sniped by tanks from across the map cause somebody put an orange indicator over my head like a sim's character.

Played Hardcore (lmfao, CoD much?) and everyone's just camping. All I see is fucking camping. Left, right and centre. No one actively goes out and tries to seek enemies. Objectives are usually camped to a 50/50 split in an urban map and then the area in between is no man's land. From there it's just long range combat.

Mind you, BORING long range combat. I don't know about other BF3 players, but ME? I don't find it STIMULATING/entertaining to run around with a fucking recon kit and MAYBE find an enemy once every 10 minutes, only to be popped by some fucking loser ass motherfucker. How can you find that fun? The maps are LARGE so there's even less reason to camp.

You should have gotten bf4 its basicly bf3 but the way it should have been, also play HC it is much nicer(limited hud) no minimap no dot over their heads.

What do you mean by 'the way it should have been'. People have said BF3 was better. But even going from World at War to Modern Warfare 2 was a huge deal. WaW was a hectic mess. I couldn't think straight while playing that shit. And MW2 was much more contained, but still had plenty of.. DOODY to go around.

How exactly is BF4 better? And I don't know if I'm prepared to install another 30 GBs for 6-8 hours. That was insane. I thought this PREMIUM EDITION would actually have all content on the disc.

No game today gives you everything in the box. DVD disk are only 4.7GB in size... you would need like 10 disk to install all of the content.

I can't say why BF4 is better, but I have played both from the alpha stages and I have not gone back to play bf3. 4 just seems to play better. The helo's flight feel is WAY better in 4 then it was in 3, But this is my opinion your views probably don't match mine.

i think it's the best online fps that i played.

I just keep trying to play the game but end up getting pissed off. It seems that I get killed only for one reason: Because I don't fucking CAMP like 90% of the players in the goddam match. They may as well rip off their fucking WASD keys. And whenever I do come across someone head to head, 9 out of 10 of the times they get murdered by me. They have no fucking aim, no reaction speed. I flanked an entire team and slaughtered nearly everyone in Metro while they were busy playing what you could very well consider Two Forts. One team shooting the other at another end of the map. This game just plays fucking awfully. Or at least, the players make it so. It's like watching a gymnasium of Canadian kids playing soccer.

And I am still unbelievably shocked by the amount of depth in certain things such as weapon customization. And the requirements for unlocking more. As if it's normal to rack up dozens of kills per game.. LOL! Even in a 40+ man match, I hardly run into people... And when I'm strutting about for 10 minutes, I find someone then get killed, either by a tank from 90 miles away, or by someone camping.

HOW can someone find this game stimulating? I've never been more bored and frustrated playing an FPS. You know a game fucking sucks when you go back to Call of Duki and say it's better. Holy shit... Counter Strike never had and never will have this level of complexity in weapon modifications due to the nature of the game, but god damn it's painfully obvious why so many still play it. It's because it's perfection, simply put.

The countless attempts at seriousness are just pretentious and mediocre. SO MANY WEAPON MODS! SO LITTLE TIME TO GET THEM! CRAZY contrast of light and dark! And NO night vision. Or at least none that I have seen. Man, if I could get my money back, I totally would... This game is just so fucking bad, and I'm really trying very hard to find something good in it. Battlefield is just Call of Duty with large maps and vehicles. Taking part of a formula and mixing in many parts that simply aren't compatible.

How can a developer have such an extreme amount of disregard and no bearing on the interconnectedness of everything they have implemented in the game? I'm having a very hard time understanding how this game could have been put together by people who are not mentally unfit.

Play some tdm. Then the game turns into a fast paced fastest one to react best aim wins.
BF3 has huge spread values at all so it's all about hitting your first three shots. And making them head shots.
BF3 doesn't have that many gun attachments. All assault rifles use heavy barrel and fore grip. No reason to use any other guns. If you want a skill game BF3 is the way to go so long as you play tdm. If you don't it's all about vehicles. Get gud. Don't complain about a game play the game and use it to your advantage. you are being a srub by locking yourself into a certain thing that the game doesn't play to. Play the game that the game allows you to play. This isn't BF 1942 or what not its BF3 its a different direction than all the others.

This is what I think is true about games like Battlefield.

You get a scenario like this

Free user uses starter weapons.

Premium user comes in with a more powerful weapon and kills the free user.

Free user rage quits and uninstalls the game.

End of scenario.

How old is the game? Plus the starting guns in BF are always good. Plus it isn't hard to get the next few.
Also why you wouldn't get premium is beyond me. For an extra $20 up front you get all dlcs. How many did the latest BF games come with that are each $15. It makes no sense to not get it.

BF3 came out in November 2011.

What lol bf? No.....

personally i think i would take bf3 over bf4. back in bf3 i was a sniper and you actually had to know how to snipe, you know deal with the bullet drop. bf4 they made that easy with being able to zero your scope. and yeah i know thats more realistic but it makes it way to easy IMO

As he said... Hardcore mode is the way to go on BF3 or BF4.

I'd take 4 over 3 simply because I'm more accustomed to it these days. I've played 3 a few times this past week, and I feel like a noob on there now. With that said... something about 3 just seems better than 4. The way the soldiers run seems more legit. Also the tank with 3 seats would be so nice to have in BF4.
