Wireless Mouse Searching / Logitech MX Master Vs. MX Master 2S_

I have been using my portable PC for a while now and very much like using my Steam Controller as the main input device, a replacement mouse as it is. It still has a few issues but I can work around all of them, like windows admin prompts the controller input drops out (it is supposed to deal with this but still does not correctly) I will have to use my keyboard to accept or ignore the prompts, which is fine really.

The controller will remain the primary input method but I got to playing Hotline Miami the other day and found it was not something I could play easily with a controller. I need a mouse for a few situations and some games. So i have been looking but really only at one mouse.

The Logitech MX Master. I have seen it on a few a of the tech channels and they quite like it some using it their everyday mouse. I like its design, its features and it battery life and connectivity (nothing proprietary).
In looking I came across the MX Master 2S, an upgraded version of the original. which promises all of the above and more in the form of a proprietary dongle that lets one mouse work simultaneously over multiple machines. I have no need for such a function though. The downside is that the 2S does not have as wide a colour option and is more expensive. So the question falls to this:

Should I get the original MX master, Slightly cheaper, More colours, All the options I need it seems.
–OR–
Should I get the MX Master 2S, are the upgrades it offers worth the extra cost? I would only really want extra battery life, the multi PC idea is nice but I cannot see using it but also would not mind getting it if other upgrades make the mouse in general more worth it.

Does any on these here forums have either the MX Master or the 2S, or the holy grail both. Or indeed any other recommendations for wireless mice in the same style, not tiny and ultra portable.

It certainly looks like a great mouse. I was torn between it and a Logitech G602. Ultimately decided on the latter though since it was marked down $46 and appeared to be best for gaming.

I can’t speak for the MX Master, but one thing you might want to consider is a trsckball–I know. Weird. But yesterday I almost flegded out $80 for this:

I kept reading that trackballs help keep carpal tunnel to a minimum (I have CTS pretty badly), but one thing that stood out to me is I’m on my phone a lot so scrolling with my thumb might lead to even worse trigger finger (something else I’ve been gifted with) so it turned me away.

But it was a fresh reminder that a mouse isn’t a be all end all. If I could have found a reasonabley priced one that used one of my fingers outside of my thumb then yesterday I would’ve snagged one. Took a look!

I am interested in a trackball at some stage but right now I need portable and the steam controller fulfills the trackball under thumb roll very well for now.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

I’d pounce on that excellent offer. While I’ve briefly tested both it was some time apart and they felt much the same. But they’re both a bit heavy which might be too much for some. So better take up that offer than potentially being let down by the full price newer model.

start training grip and hand muscles it will help way more than a change in mouse.

Well yeah it’s like synergy so if you want you can get synergy and you will have the same experience and it won’t be tied to the mouse.

I just have to tell you that there is 1 serious bug with the mouse, the switcher for the “infinity scroll” may “brake”. you can fix it but do it only if you get out of warranty ( this bug has occurred on many devices ). My side button also broke. but this happens to every mouse so yeah.

I do not know what Infinity Scroll is, though knowing it is both user repairable and warranty covered is good to hear. Thanks.

Thank you. I am on to this problem with my current desk mouse, Mionix Naos 3200, the side button either does nothing or double clicks, sometimes works right. Also the mouse wheel is doing the same. I got some good years out of it so I am not annoyed and it is still working right now.

@mkk I figured they would be pretty much the same just a version 2. That is good to hear. I am definitely going to jump on it tonight if nothing comes along soon.

I’m currently using the Logitech MX Master, and when you’re sat in front of a PC all day, it feels great, but to be fair, I’d imagine that also depends on what kinda grip you’re into. I am hardcore palm, and I don’t have huge hands, but at the same time, my hands are far from small, so this fits my hand really nicely. I find that when I use mid sized mice my fingers and hand just begin to ache eventually! :stuck_out_tongue: … But yes, it has a nice number of features, but not too much where there’s nearly as many buttons on your mouse as there are keys on your keyboard! :joy:

I can’t speak for the MX Master 2S, all I know is that the MX Master, for me, it is orgasmic, I wouldn’t recommend it for gaming at all, it’s a bit big and heavy to move around the place really quickly, when compared to actual gaming oriented mice that is. If you’re like myself, where you game for fun and you’re a bit of a workaholic, then the MX Master ticks all the right boxes. Plus I love the side scroll wheel, I have it programmed just for the volume, for me, that is a must, I honestly don’t think I could get used to controlling the volume another way, as silly as that may sound.

I would’ve imagined there isn’t a huge difference between the two, just the S2 may have slightly better features.

As for the battery life, I’m a bit of a power user, and for me, it lasts at least 3 - 4 days, but that does include leaving it on over night, and even then I don’t let the battery die, I let it drop till the last bar, but sometimes I’ll just plug it in for the sake of it. This may also be an overlooked tip too, but the cable it comes with is pretty high quality, nice one Logitech! It’s rubber, which in my eyes is much better and nicer than braided, purely because kinks, I can’t tell you how passionately I hate those kinks you get with a braided mouse/keyboard cable… I bought the Corsair K70 once… The kinks drove me borderline insane! :joy:

To be more exact my side button doesn’t retract back when it’s being pressed. So i dont press it but it’s because I am lazy, I can change it otherwise.

On the " infinity scroll" its actually called “hyper-fast scroll” and it’s easily the best feature. You can literally scroll 10000 posts in the lounge with one big spin on the scroll wheel.

It is a fairly similar shape to my Mionix Naos now so feel should be fine thanks.

That all sounds good thanks, looks like this is the one for me.

UPDATE: Deals off, my brother does not have amazon prime, he has twitch prime. Oh well.

So the MX Master and the 2S at full price are the same price. So the search goes on for a while more, but if nothing comes up the 2S is the one for me.
