Windows PC monitor goes to sleep requires hard reset

Recently my pc started exhibiting strange behavior, the monitor turns off or goes to sleep mode and only way to recover is to reset the PC.
My GPU is one year old RTX3090 and my screen is MSI PS341WU.
I guess either cable, GPU or monitor. Maybe I will start with the cable.

Check the power setting in windows and make sure windows isn’t set to goto sleep after 5 or 10 minutes.

DP? Check the cable. Especially if it’s an older or cheaper one. DP pin 20 is largely a bogeyman nowadays, but it never hurts to check, especially with how potential damage there is.

Yes DP.
I tried running this with HDMI cable and the problem is gone. Looks like it was probably the cable. Looks like cable problem indeed.

Double checked with fresh DP cable, problem indeed solved

Good. Worst case, those bad cables can damage your GPU. Haven’t personally talked to anyone who had that happen, but it’s possible.

That is really good to know. Definitely never plug this one in again.

Just tret it for what it is: electrowaste
