One of the people I built a PC for just got this error when trying to update to Windows 11 24H2:
The culprit is a WD SN770 2TB NVMe SSD. Windows 11 23H2 is currently installed.
Here are specs for other connected hardware :
CPU: Ryzen 5 3500X
Mobo: ASUS ROG Strix B550-I Gaming Mini-ITX
I found a Reddit thread referencing that a firmware update is needed due to an issue updating from 23H2 to 24H2?
One link goes to,
SanDisk Product support, where you can find your order status, product registration instructions, check a warranty claim, and more.
They downloaded SanDisk Dashboard and updated the firmware to fix the issue.
I will try this with him tomorrow. Wish me luck! If you have any ideas or advice, feel free to post.

Yeah, it’s a firmware issue. Just update the firmware and you should be good to go.
Instructions and links from SanDisk here

Did 11 24H2 on like four SN770 systems. All were non-issues, though I did have to restart the one that didn’t already have updated firmware to get the 11 installer to see the update. Weird it can’t figure it out but it’s par for Microsoft’s handling of the whole thing.

Thread title is confusing; are you upgrading to 24 H2 or 25 H2?

Hi there! Yes, he actually was on 23H2 upgrading to 24H2. I think there was a miscommunication. I updated the title and OP to clarify this
Yes! Thank you. I had him follow the SanDisk instructions, and there were zero issues.
After a reboot, the Windows 11 24H2 update installed successfully!

No problem with SamSung SSD. It is easy fixed by updating the firmware for similar issues.
The WD SN770 compatibility issue in 24H2 requires updating the firmware to version 731000WD and enabling VMD controller compatibility mode.
