Windows 11 Pro + Bitlocker Performance Issues

So apparently when first installing the OS you have the option to enable this feature but it also seems to default to using Software encryption instead of the Hardware encryption method being used/supported on most SSD’s now a days.

I don’t use the function so I ran the command to check and confirm all my storage devices say Fully Decrypted which they do.

I should be good in that no encryption is currently enabled correct ?

It depends on your usecase:
If you are running Windows on a laptop which you take with you and I would leave BitLocker enabled so no one can get your data if you loose your laptop.

If you are using Windows on a desktop computer at home I would disable it.

Get a USB stick and verify by mounting the Windows drive.

@jode, by using a USB stick and mounting the drives you mean a Live nix distro and boot from there and see if they mount correctly ?

I assume if they are encrypted this would not work ?

That’s right. One of the benefits of having an unencrypted drive is that you can mount it, e.g. to run a virus scan.

Thanks for the feedback
