Wii Homebrew [Step-By-Step Guide!]

Disclaimer

If you somehow manage to brick your Wii, I am not to be held responsible, it is YOUR CHOICE to follow this guide, it worked fine for me and nothing bad happened. Once again, I will not be held responsible for bricking any of your broken Wiis.

What is Wii Homebrew?

Wii Homebrew is a channel created by several people who worked hard to find a way to install it. It lets you install your own applications to your Wii via. SD Card, including applications that let you input your own codes into games, similar to action replay. You can also install emulators and DVD Players to your Wii, as well as several other applications.

What You Need to Install The Homebrew Channel

1. An SD Card, at MOST 2GB. It would be more convenient to have a specialized SD Card specifically for the Wii (Says it on the card package or card) to prevent any errors. I used the wrong type of SD Card at 2GB and it wouldn't install before.

2. The Legend of Zelda : Twilight Princess for the WII, Not Gamecube

3. Version 3.4U or earlier of Wii Software. You can check which version you have in the Wii System Settings, it will display it in the top right in bold white text.

4. A Reader Capable of reading SD Cards to your computer.

>>>OPTIONAL BUT RECCOMENDED<<<

5. Your Wii connected to the internet. If you're version 3.4U or earlier, whatever you do, if you want homebrew to stay functional, DO NOT UPGRADE YOUR SOFTWARE.

Step-By-Step Procedure!

1. Take your Legend of Zelda : Twilight Princess disk and view the bottom. On the inner ring in small shiny letters, it should say something like

RVL-RZDE-0A-0

>>>The E and 0 are italic because..

The E can vary between P J and E, depending where the game was from.

The 0 means the game version. It varies between 0 and 2, this is important! Remember this!!<<<

Write down your RVL-RZDE/J/P-0A-0/2 code onto a piece of paper.

2. Go to your Wii system data and find out your Wii Software Version. (Details listed above)

3. Insert the SD Card into your Wii.

4. If you have a twilight princess save file, go to your Wii system memory. Select the Wii category and find your Twilight Princess save. Copy it to your SD Card and Delete it off of your Wii. Don't worry, you can bring it back after this.

5. Bring the SD Card to your computer and insert it to your SD Reader. Open the SD card in FOLDER FORMAT, so you can view the folders and files and such. Find the folder Private. Open it, go through to Wii to Title then RZDE then when you're done clicking through the folders, You'll see a data.bin file. This is your original Twilight Princess save. Store it somewhere you will remember to put it back, so you don't lose your data.

6. This is where that code you wrote down comes in handy. First, go Here and download the "Twilight Hack" that is corresponding to your software version.

Next, Open the .zip file and view inside. You will see a folder called Private, open it, and this is where that code you wrote comes in handy. If you were RZDE, RZDJ, or RZDP, then open that corresponding folder. Inside you will find another data.bin file. Put that data.bin file where your first one was, in your SD Card (Private,Wii,Title,RZDE/J/P). If you've already one there, agree to replace it since you made a backup on your computer.

Then download the_homebrew_channel-1.0.1.tar.gz which should say .DOL in bold on top of it. Once finished, extract the Zip archive inside that Zip archive and then open that. You will see a folder named wiiload and boot.dol.

Put both of these files in the ROOT DIRECTORY of your SD Card. [The Root Directory is the center of the SD Card.. Where you saw the folder called private.]

7. Alright, now that we've done all that, it's time to eject your SD card and put it back in the Wii (!MAKE SURE TWILIGHT PRINCESS IS IN THE WII FOR THIS STEP!).

Go to data management and go to the SD Card section. Make sure your original twilight princess save data is no longer on your wii for this step as well. Go to the SD Card and you will see a file called "Twilight Hack". Copy this file to your Wii Data.

Now go back to the home menu, and boot your Twilight Princess game via. the disk channel.

8. Okay! We're almost done! Okay, Open up the save menu at the startup of Twilight Princess like you would normally do. You will see save files named Twilight Hack or Twilight Hack 0 and Twilight Hack 2. Go back to the code you wrote down of your Disk Code (RVL-RZDE-xx-x).

If you had RVL-RZDE-0A-2 USA Then open TWILIGHT HACK 2.

If you had RVL-RZDE-0A-0 USA or RVL-RZDE-0A-0 JPN then open Twilight Hack 0.

If you had neither of these codes, and Twilight Hack [No numbers] is there, open that.

Now you'll appear in the first level, and there will be a guy in front of you. Talk to him, and a black screen should pop up with white text. It'll extract your little installation you put in the SD Card, then it'll tell you a disclaimer and ask if you ACCEPT agreements, and it will install. Just keep tapping the 1 button. Once its all done it should take you back to the home channel. You should see a new channel that says "The Homebrew Channel". Congratulations, you've installed the Wii Homebrew!!

9. Now, lastly, if you want your twilight princess file back, delete Twilight Hack off your Wii through the Wii Data Management.

Then, take your SD card out of the wii, bring it to the PC, put it in the reader/drive, and drag the FIRST FIRST Data.bat file you saved somewhere like I told you to back to private/wii/title/RZDE/ and replace the data.bat thats already there (That's the twilight hack). Once that's done, eject your SD Card and insert it into your Wii. Then go to Data Management, and copy the Twilight Princess save back into your Wii, and like that your file is back.

>>Adding Applications<<

The easiest way is if you followed the optional step and have an internet connection set up. If you did, click here and on the top right should display "Download" in bold and to the right, blue words. Click those blue words to download.

Once the download is complete you should have a .zip archive called homebrew_browser_v0.2.5c.zip

Remove your SD Card from your Wii [Make sure your homebrew channel isn't open and you're on the wii home menu] and put it back in the SD Reader and we'll do a little more editing, like we did with the save file. In the Root Directory, make a new folder called apps

>>!IT'S CASE SENSITIVE!<<

Now drag the homebrew_browser folder into your apps folder. Once it's done copying, you can eject your SD card, and put it into the Wii. Now open the homebrew channel. You should see a little button that says "Homebrew Browser". Press A on that, and then press A on the Load button. It'll initialize. Now it'll have a black screen with white letters again, do not worry its just booting the browser. [You can make sense of the white words easily on this though, in case of errors]

Now you'll be on some sort of Plaza of Downloads. All you have to do now is download an app you like, and then go back to the Homebrew Main Menu and you'll be able to open it!

Besides that, the same way you install the Homebrew Browser up there ^^^

You do the same for other applications, but you will have to find them on the internet and install individually.

~~~HACKING GAMES~~~
This is probably the main reason you'd want Homebrew. It's why I wanted it.
;To hack games;
With Internet Set Up : open the homebrew browser and go to the "Popular" tab. You should find one called "GECKO OS". Download that. Once it's downloaded, go to the WII HOME MENU. Then take out your SD Card, and put it in the SD Reader. Just like how you added the homebrew browser, make a new folder called codes
It's case sensitive, beware. Alright, once that's done, download the program that will let you create codes that can be read by Gecko OS {E.G. infinite hearts, etc.}
Here
Without Internet Set Up : Download Gecko OS Here (Just click the "Download" thing on the right)
Once done, add a folder to your sd root directory if not already called apps
Open the GEckoOS107b.zip archive file that you downloaded. Drag the GeckoOS107b folder inside there to your apps folder in your SD card. Now make a new folder called codes Beware, it's case sensitive. From there, you will need to download a program that lets you create code files that gecko OS will read Here.
~Making The Codes~
Once you've downloaded codemanager.zip, open it, and drag the folder CodeManaging! to your desktop. Open codemgr.exe [Icon should be a skull]. Once you open it, you should have a very basic menu that says the Game ID(Blank game), a Code List [blank, theres a button to add a code/comment/category], and then the code details once you make them. Once you create all the codes you want, click file, save as TXT file and save it somewhere so you can edit the code anytime. Then, once you've got your codelist finished, ticked off, click Export to GCT and itll automatically eject it to your SD Drive's Code folder, if not, select that folder through the "Store to File" button. From there, you just Eject your SD Card and put it in your wii, open the homebrew channel, open Gecko OS, click Load, and then press A on Launch Game, it will boot the game and apply the SD Codes to the list (it will say so.)
Happy Hacking!
"That section didn't tell me at all how to make codes."
Sorry I didn't specify, but it just seemed out of place, so I'll put it here.
If you want any codes, Name the Game and what you want the code to do as a reply to this thread. I'll give you all the statistics (Game ID, Codes, etc.)
"I keep getting _____ Error" or "My Wii freezes and makes a DEEERRRRPPPP sound!!"
If it's an error, tell me the error and what happens/when as a reply.
If it's the Wii Freezes and makes a DERRRPPP Sound, there are several reasons.
1. You opened the wrong twilight hack file.
2. You put too many codes and booted the game playing with those codes, codes replace values and cause errors. Just unplug and replug the Wii or hold the power button.
3. You upgraded your software and tried to open homebrew.
To fix this annoying DERRRPing just unplug the Wii or hold the power button down.
If it's none of these, leave it in a reply!
Haha, no problem. Just spreading the love of hacks.
Make sure you read the disclaimer though... I'm not going to be held responsible for any bricked Wiis... Same with that guys overclocking guide. You've got to take a risk for the best...
But heres an example of what you can do : Ganondorf's sword and horse in TP.
LOL CONSOLES.
No trolling, boy.
No Trolling, boy.
None of that. If you don't like consoles, don't bother.
lol, it still depends on if i feel like risking it and whenever i can barrow my friend's zelda game again.
nice guide ill might try it when i buy a wii
Thanks man. I tried this a few months ago, and failed. I have the homebrew channel, but the backup loader doesnt work. 3.3u was unbreakable at that point. I will give this a shot.
