I mean, being petty about what OS and browser employees use is just a result of your bosses being a “manipulative ass” and a “pure idiot.” When your workplace has a bunch of little, stupid problems, in reality it’s usually just one big (but still stupid) problem. “Good job” includes “good boss.” this is what “work culture” really means: how nice it is to work there, not how many nerf guns they have.
basically, i’m throwing my lot in with the “find yourself a new job before you break” crowd. : ) good luck!
Creating threads about Linux is popular here isn’t?
It feels like a repeat. Aren’t there like dozen of threads already on who uses Linux and Why, and why not…?
JUST DO IT!!!
see if it works out and if you got questions probably some Linux guy here will help.
Its all about your personal preferences and your strength to embrace total freedom and singularity!
UPlay really isn’t as bad as it used to be, at least its better than Origin for which I constantly have issues with. Although It would be interesting to see if Ubisoft/EA followed Steams example and release a client for Linux, my guess is that it’ll never happen unless Windows takes a major downfall.
Arch Linux 24/7 365x4. Debian before that since 2010. Dos 4, 5, 6, Win3.x, NT blah blah blah before that. Unix and X on a Sun Sparcstation in CS at University (that was like discovering how to breathe - back in 1989). Anyhoo, Windows sees CPU cycles in a VM when running AutoCAD Civil3d because that is the only engineering software that can do what must be done. When there is a viable Linux alternative they will get my money and free marketing. BrisCAD is slowly gaining ground but 5 years back or so. When gaming it is ONLY on Linux as a matter of principle; since that is a voting block of 1 - not so at work.
I just want all my games on Linux, I’ll probably move to Fedora and do GPU passthrough after I get a Vega card/possibly Ryzen as well and call it a day, having to boot into Windows for gaming is a pain.
that already just works ™ on arch btw. if you don’t want to do the obnoxious install (which I don’t blame you for) just use antergos. it’s an arch system with an easy button installer.
GNU/linux, full time now since windows went crazy, Just a little bit on games with windows as other boot drive for Cyan Obduction, not a great gamer and can do all I want on Linux browsing, etc not hardcore as still learning, used MS since 2.11 or even before, /rant shame to see corporate stratergy to overide users like they are now, dumb down and force feed /rant
My main issue at the moment is that I only have a 4690k and 8GBs of memory and my guess is that performance in the Windows VM will be very poor with this hardware configuration. At the moment I get really close to using all of my memory when running Windows VMs, Sometimes I’ve even used all of my memory and a fair bit of swap and had my system lockup for a while until I close Chrome.
If I can get some cheap DDR3 I would, at this point DDR3 costs as much or more than DDR4 in some cases and I’m likely to upgrade to a newer platform within 12 months so I’ll have to decide whether it is worth it or not.
I personally have been using Arch on and off (mostly on) for about 2 (maybe 3?) years. I’ve switched back and forth between GNOME and KDE/Plasma as a desktop environment but I’m thinking of trying more Desktop Environments and seeing which ones fair better for me.
So far, KDE and GNOME both fit, for different reasons. I’ve kept KDE on my laptop though, since it’s nicer for a touchpad than GNOME 3 is.
You can add me to this list, Linux will pretty much work for all my needs without a hassle. The only thing I ever use my windows VM for at this point is occasionally playing league with my friends.
