Which RAM to choose for my X260?

Hi everyone,

I have a Lenovo X260 with 8GB of RAM.
In the UEFI I have no settings for the RAM, I can only see that it is 8GB.
I want to upgrade to 16GB of RAM. After searching the web it seems the X260 always comes with 2133MHz RAM, but I could not find anything about the timings.

I can choose between 2133MHz RAM CL15, 2400MHz RAM CL16 and 2666MHz RAM CL19.

I would like to have better performance if possible, but I fear that I will put 2666MHz RAM in the notebook and it will only run at 2133MHz but with CL19 timings. Does anybody know what the best solution here is?

Thanks in advance!

Have you checked if it can if the laptop can take 2 RAM modules or just 1? As for speed, normally laptops (unless it’s a high end performance oriented model) have limited support. You are better off getting a module that closely matches the original. If on Windows, you can use CPU-Z to figure out the RAM that the laptop is using.

The laptop has only one RAM slot, single channel. Also I do not have Windows but it seems every version of this notebook is fitted with 2133MHz RAM by default.
So you say better get the 2133MHz CL15 RAM module instead of the higher clocked versions, yes?

yes

because:

Apparently it wouldn’t run over 2133 mhz, maybe

I see, thank you guys. Then I will order the 2133MHz dimm!
