I just got a EVGA gtx 670 and I can't play dirt 3 or battlefield 3 or launch 3d mark, but I can launch fur mark and play world of warcraft. I am certain it's my PSU because when I run the Nvidia sonic super sled program my computer just shuts down. (Not enough power I presume) I have a 500 watt PSU (To see my other hardware look at my profile) I was planning to upgrade anyway but even though EVGA reccomends a 500 watt PSU with a intel core i7 @ stock I have an i5 at stock.
So what PSU is reccomended for my system, I was thinking a 700 watt, I want 80+ bronze or higher and I would prefere a modular design (Semi modular is ok.) Lastly I live in Australia, if that helps.
Sounds like your power supply doesn't have the "umpf" as 12v at 20 amps only means 240Watts of 12v power add in the efficiency, thats only 187 Watts of power! and the card consumes a max of 170W.
I'd personally look at a something from seasonic or Corsair. Such as the HX series with their 80% Gold ratings.
Wattage wise, you dont need anything like a 700W, unless you plan to add another GPU? A good 550 - 650W should do.
I don't know what is avaliable to you down in the land of Aus, so I cant really make suggestions on what is worth the money!
Spend a few extra dollars and get that Seasonic 860w Platinum!!!
I have the 1000w Platinum from Seasonic, the thing is a monster. 7-year warranty as well, you will have peace of mind, not to mention more than enough power should you decide to upgrade your GPU or add a second one in the future.
You will also save a few dollars in your power bill (neglible), but your power will be so fucking clean and stable. Seasonic platinums are some of the most stable consumer-grade PSUs in the world, better than their competitors counterparts for the most part.
