What to do with an old CPU?

I just got my hands on a Poweredge 2900 with 2 E5110's in it, and I'm going to be upgrading them to E5345's. Once I get them swapped out I'm probably going to try to sell them. However, I don't really expect that I'll be able to get rid of them that way (.

Anyone have any ideas of what I could do with them? Cannibalization is acceptable, since one of the ideas I was considering was to make a keychain out of one.

Keychain was what I was going to suggest. That's what I've done with a few. They look pretty neat, that's for sure, and it doesn't require much effort to make really.

yea had mentioned to wendelltron for the video about the random parts was gonna sell or whatever that keychains pretty easy, and probably could get 10-25$ a shot which not so good for new processors but for old chips like a p3 or something not really worth anything at all so mad gains.

always collection, artworks, could keep one as a backup etc.

I sometimes practise delidding on old or broken cpus. I've never delidded one that I'm actually using in a machine but when I do I'll be well prepared haha.

Handwarmer? or jacket heatpacks. Glad they arent damn AMD's or they would 3rd degree burn the hell outta u by doing what I'm suggesting.

Also, is getting cold AF here. My HD4850 heats the room fairly well but still considering on doing a padded onesie with my old 775 celerons from my Xeon swaps :v

Hey why not a necklace, Its sorta like a key chain but hey, i think it would be cool.

Keep them just for collection purposes and as a backup, in case one or both the new chips fail for whatever reason.

I would say a dedicated porn machine but that's just me. You could also donate it to your local highschool or community college.

I was thinking of selling my old q6600 since it's ok for office and interweb tasks for normies but it sells so cheap on eBay that I'd get pennies for it so I'm thinking in making a pfsense machine with it

@Solnir necklace sounds like a good idea
@MetalizeYourBrain probably a good start to a collection
@Giulianno_D that would require getting a bunch of hardware that I don't have lying around
@FVEY I've never actually done that, so I'll have to try it.

My collection has begun too. This chip was in one of my old PCs and still works, even if the die is slightly chipped in the bottom right corner.

i'd say put into frame or make keychain out off it.

I too have a old Q6600 I am fond of....I cant part with it so it will be a NAS or a pfsense router...maybe both if I can work out the details.
