VPN stopping access to FREENAS server

I have not used a VPN before and started using NordVPN. I noticed when I have the VPN connected I cant access my FreeNAS server connected by LAN. Is this normal with a VPN? As soon as i disconnect the VPN i can access the server.

This is common/normal

Depending on the App, you might have an option like “allow local traffic”

Or, you might be able to set custom routes in the system settings of your O/S.

I would look in the app first

“Split Tunneling” by URL is what you want, with the FreeNas URL (ip or name) as the exception
