VMware workstation processors vs cores per processor?

So I switched from vbox on windows to vmware workstation. vbox made it simple to select how many threads you want. This seems more advanced. Are the number of cores per processors the threads? Processors the physical cores? I am confused. can’t find much of anything concrete on this subject matter…

I am trying to run a vm with a minecraft server in mind. I just want the best performance for it. I am running ubuntu server. I tried fedora server and i had nothing but problems. What would be the best optimization with these settings for a minecraft server?

That’s even different from full VMWare on a server, that one asks how many processors and how many sockets you want it to use.

Though, my guess is that is you want say 4 threads, you would choose 2 and 2 = Total 4

But I could be wrong

I think reading the documentation helped. VMware player (free) only supports cores per processor. Workstation supports virtual cpu sockets and so on. My guess is the freeware one only supports a single cpu. So my guess is set it to 1 processor and 6 cores for the single cpu.
