I wonder if the hysteria will result in our government requiring every gpu in the US to be registered and licensed (like a gun).
I watched the whole GPU smuggling video and thought it was long winded, badly edited and barely provided any real news info. I have a longer rant about it in the archival thread:
However, this Bloomberg thing is taking that nothing-burger of a piece and blowing it up into something actually interesting. ![]()
maybe bloomberg is worried that ānuhvidiaā stock price will take a hit from bad press. The last 16 minutes really does put NVIDIA in a harsh light.
Steve to NVIDIA: payback is a bitch
Thereās no such thing as bad publicity. Just bad timing ![]()
Iām not watching GN anymore, for reasons someone already mentioned in this thread: much adoo 'bout notāing ![]()
I started to watch it when it was first released, before the strike⦠and holy cow⦠3 hours⦠I planned to revisit it later and now it is bloomburged.
I will watch it when they get it put back up I think⦠Iām avoiding watching the repostings for now. Hoping it gets resolved quick enough.
i sorta feel like that too and will try to watch it when it gets up. But I am not sure there are 3 hours of actual proper content in there, and i am by no means someone who does not want excessive amounts of information - i love that, and i watch GN normally but some of the investigative reporting can get very longwinded.
On the other hand, this IS probably the most heavy topic that GN could possibly tackle, as it touches the practical end of a very geopolitical issue and at the same time affects us all to a certain extent⦠even though i am all the way over in Denmark.
For most content from a mainstream channel like GN, especially a 3āhourāplus āin the wildā video, you get the same information by having Copilot summarize it for you.
Iād be more inclined to watch a 3h video from Wendell about ProxMox.
I wonder if they feel giving us more footage of their investigations will translate into more
believably as they are not cutting the feed as much to āspinā.
But yeah Iād watch a 3 hour movie⦠like with a story and plot⦠sandra bullock⦠but dry interviews⦠are gonna need smaller sessions.
Yeah, I agree that it should have been a mini-series. I also would have condensed dead air when cutting it. By releasing it all at once youāre not building enough anticipation and engagement as if it was a staggered release as a mini-series.
Also, all the Michael Jordon references may be why my Uncle moved to GNās neck of the woods.
Steve made a second video now.
Steve to Bloomberg: payback is a bitch
Seems like GN is adding some āreactive journalismā to its usual tech talk.
Reminds me of how Lex changed his channel from being AI centered to a ātechā version of joe rogan- i guess everyone needs to grow their channel and what better way than providing a dopamine hit.
I hope asianometry doesnāt get infected with this condition
Oooh can we have this please?
Regular GN agitation for the reddit clicks
Yep generally agree with this.
While i did find it highly interesting they should make a 30min meat and potatoes cut version, it would pack way more punch and actually feel meaningful.
While i do appreciate all the included details, it takes away from the core of the story.
Maybe GN overpaid for their editing?
Iām gonna give an opposite view on this: Iām starting to hate series on youtube that donāt have self closing episodes. I think they drove this concept to the extreme in lots of cases and now I have a distaste for them. The GN video can be paused at each chapter and resumed, watched at your own pace and that I appreciate.
I didnāt watch it to the end before it got taken down so Iām not gonna comment on the content.
From what I managed to watch (1hr in) I think the point was not to give new informations but to show that what have been said was never proved to this level of detail and couldāve easly be dismissed as conspiracy theory. This video shows true evidence of whatās been talked about, shows real people behind this business and that Nvidia could be closing an eye for extra profit.
That was fun to watch.
He hangs out with industry analysis
Except they did their own editing, Steve(leader/main) had a large hand in the editing.
I see australia was mentioned as a smuggling source.
Makes fucking sense now why GPUs here are WAY FAR BEYOND the cost they should be based on AUD/USD exchange rate.
Because theyāre all ending up in Chinese datacentersā¦
Your gun analogy fails because it is not true at all that guns have to be registered and/or licensed in the U.S. There are some failed states in the Union who have a large criminal underclass, which they refer to as their labor/voting block, that compels them to legislate the dictatorial control of firearms in those areas, but nothing nationwide.
