I have some basic requirements for what i need, but first let me explain my current systems core components.
Core i5 2500k (Planning on upgrading to a 3770k)
GTX 660ti (Planning on upgrading to a GTX 780)
16GB RAM @ 1600mhz
And various high RPM hard drives.
Me and my friends just make allot of gaming videos and one thing that we have been doing allot lately was I've been having us all record at the same time then i will just cut back and forth between each others screens depending on who is doing what is most exciting at that time. (I don't know what thats called, if you could tell me that would be great.) I currently use sony vegas and using that is a pane in the ass. Mainly because it lacks that feature i just named. (Also rendering projects with allot of cutting back and forth from clip to clip can take up to 10 hours…)
Another requirement, talked about a little in the previous part was the render times. I know to expect lengthy render times with video editing programs but 10 hours for a video that really is crazy. I bearly use any effects at all (Maybe some rotoscoping text across the screen or something). I know that Nvidia cards have CUDA, i heard it talked about quite a bit on how it can help in video editing programs but in sony vegas even when rendering just 3 minutes of video with absolutely no effects or cutting to 1080p mp4 format can take up to 10 minutes when using CUDA, sometimes 13 to 15 if using just the CPU. So a program that can take advantage of my hardware a little more would help too.
(Also, i apologize for any spelling and grammar mistakes i have made. Im not lazy i just am bad with it.)
Adobe Premier might fit the bill, and what version of vegas are you using?
well vegas only supports opencl, and nvidia cards are pretty bad with open cl so that'd be your problem
the only good software on windows that i'm aware of is vegas and premier, premier is also the only one that i'm aware of that supports cuda, besides if you have problems with the way vegas works (taking forever to edit things) many people say that premier is much easier to use
12 i think, and i love the profile pic btw lol
Hmmm... thats two for Premier, so i think i may go for that.
+1 for Premier.
How long are the videos and what resolution/file-type are you exporting as, along with compression format? That will greatly alter the render times.
If you're mainly using the videos for web maybe render a .mp4.
Vegas does support CUDA. If you go into the customize template when you click on render as, then the encoding mode you can select CPU only, OpenCL or CUDA. Then go to the system tab, click on click GPU then click okay and your set to go
I use a mixture of Premiere for non-linear editing, and a lot of other nonsense, like title cards, color adjustment, and what not with a compositing software, in this case After Effects. I recommend a fast HDD like Seagate or Hitachis drives of recent, most of them get 180 to 210 MB read write avg, or a SSD to render to. My current editing setup is a i7-3770K, 16GB DDR3 1866 ram, a SSD for OS/APPs, and a slew of HDDs for storage. My capture drive is a 2TB Seagate 7200rpm that is of current gen, gets 190 avg r/w.
Mack and mesh, the guys who basically started the whole LP thing but only got semi-famous use this, taken from the FAQ on their site:
The Editing is done on various platforms. The game footage is captured on Fraps, Cut in Avid, Scored in Sonic fire pro and polished in After Effects.
Thats what i normally do, i render .mp4 in 1080p with a bitrate of 12,000,000. The videos are about 2 hours long and they can take up to 10 hours to export in sony vegas. :(
I use sony vegas. it's easuy and simple to use.... if you're not doing hardcore editing and adjustment like with the tek
My FX-6100 doesn't take 10 hours to render 1080p, heavily edited fragmovies... Also the type of editing you are talking about isn't an outright "feature" I think.
make sure cuda is enabled.... it's not be default....
my i7-920 and gtx260 only take like 3hrs to render a 1 hr fraps recording, and that's without cuda
The Tek is edited with Premiere, which like Vegas, is a NLE, and still pretty straight forward to use.
