Venus - 3D Acceleration in QEMU without GPU Passthrough

Venus is a Vulkan driver for VirtIO-GPU that lets the Guest OS use accelerated graphics on Vulkan using the host GPU. What can this mean in terms of VM acceleration, and could this mean that passing through a low powered GPU to a guest may not be necessary anymore?

It’s not clear that there are proper drivers for Windows guests to take advantage of this yet, but this is very cool if we can make it happen. It should mean exactly that.

Probably won’t be bare-metal comparable, but it’ll be enough for doing GPU accelerated video playback and light generic graphical loads in the guest.
