Vega56: Modification and Perfomance | Learning by doing

I flashed an unmodded Vega 64 BIOS onto my V56 (MSI Air Boost) without problems. That got my power limit up to 220 watts or so. The main problem is the HBM memory. Samsung memory usually works at 945 MHz and higher voltages, whereas the Hynix memory usually does not. I had to verify that I had Samsung HBM2 from Windows with GPU-Z, I think. It runs great at that speed; I’ve tried pushing it harder, and it just won’t go that much faster under Windows, mostly due to temperature limits. Linux kernel 4.20 is supposed to have adjustable power limits, voltages, MHz, and so forth. I’ll have to do some research to come up with the link (I think it was on Phoronix.)
