Using an HBA with Minisforum AR900i or BD790I

I was planning on rebuilding my nas and was looking at using the AR900i for the core of it. The big draws were the all in one nature of it, 4x M.2 slots (2x for nvme cache with ZFS  ), and the power for transcoding. I was planning on using a PCI-E HBA with it, however I have seen some reports that neither PCI-E HBAs or M.2 SATA adapters work with the board. It simply fails to recognize any drives attached to either option.

Has anyone had any luck getting an HBA to work on either board and/or does anyone have any ideas why they would not work?

Hi Clarkeismine,
i got an ar900i myself and plan to use it as a homelab/nas as well.

For now it is a work in progress.
While i did not get proxmox working with either the hba or the pcie to sata adapter, both work well in windows 10, without hickups (after i installed the complete driver package from the minisforum website). I installed win10 to test things, not planning on using windows for my nas

If i get either of those running in proxmox, i’ll let you know

Hi Clakeismine,
i got everything running. You can see the post and subsequent updates at:

Overall i’m happy with the LSI 9207-8i and plan to keep it.

thanks for replying. I ended up getting the BD790i and can confirm that both my LSI 9207-8i and my Broadcom 9600-24i work in linux as well. I’m writing this for anyone that may want to know in the future.

I can add that the board also supports bifurcation
16x
8x8x
8x4x4x
4x4x4x4x

I have been successful with a cheap dual-NVMe PCIe-card and both are recognized and run as separate NVMe disks.

However, no success with a *4 card, but that maybe the fault of the card itself.
