I’m looking for a workstation laptop that’s at least 15 inches and has a true quad core processor. I found a used W540 for £500 and am wondering whether it is worth it at that price for a laptop that has a 4th gen Intel processor? It’s the i7-4700MQ variant with 16GB of RAM and 500GB ssd.
Many thanks, I am also up for other suggestions that are below £650 used.
thats pretty decent ive been looking for a semi decent laptop and the ones i find at £500 new are I5 with 8GB and maybe a ssd and a "HD" screen I would grab that quick before someone else grabs it :D
I gotta agree with ninja. I hear newer processors are only (appreciatively) better than gen. 3-4 in power consumption. That said, I/O, screens (still not the greatest on lenovos) and graphics cards have evolved more, and so it depends on your needs in that regard too.
Still running a modded T420 so it have a quadcore (2630qm) and it pulls everything a throw at it except games (intel HD3000 and overheating during games (only)). I would buy that every day of the week. I see X1 carbon with the same gen dual core go for 300-400£ and now add that the W540 was more expensive and have a 500GB SSD makes it a very good deal.
Does it have the quadro card? Only other concern is battery life.
