Upgrading help

OK so first off heres my build, http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1lNAy.  So, I've had this PC for about 4 months now and i feel its time to upgrade.  Since i am mostly into simulation games such as arma 2/3, dayz etc. I need a good cpu.  I was debating between the fx6300 and fx8350.  I want to know if it is a big performance boost going with the fx 6300 from a phenom iix4 965?  Also I would like to know what frames/ settings (if u could tell me tht would be cool :) i would be expecting.  And lastly what inexpensive cooler i could buy.

Budget:

fx6300 option: 150ish

fx8350 option: 220ish

Thanks!

arma likes very few powerful cores, going to an fx would probably be backtraking (i'm only referring to the arma games only, not to other games, general use, other programs)

i'd get a good cooler and preferably a better motherboard, if i remember correctly those msi boards use a 3+1 vrm, something that will probably turn to molten lava if you tried to overclock

8350 is out of the equation with your existing motherboard. Unless you like toatesd mosfets. A 6300 should be ok though but I think you money could be better spent.

Try and squeeze some more grunt out of your phenom chip with some overclocking - grab something like a h100i for the roof of your case for cooling or a Noctua D14. Around the 4ghz mark should be very attainable.

All up a decent cooler and perhaps even a ssd should make your pc experience a bit better.

I lol'd at the last bit.

but yeah, get a good board. I can vouch for the Asus M5A97 R2.0, (NOT THE LE VERSION)

I run 4.2 stable on her with a Phenom 965. you'll need better then stock cooling though. much better- think Xigmatek dark knight II or Tte's Frio OCK.

I would go Thermaltake Nic C5 since it supports 220w for overclocking, or a xigmatek dark knight for coolers and buy some XSPC Xinrulian fans (look them up) close to noctua quality for $7-9

Ok i think im gonna get a new mobo and/cooler and start overclocking

Anyone have suggestions for whitch cooler i should get with a budget of 75ish?

well if i look at your build i see that you have corsair high profile ram, so, if you need a great cooler for overclock, you better look to a LC cooler. because with bigger aircoolers, like the Noctua D14 or the Phanteks PH-TC14pe you will get problems installing the ram in slot 1/3, dual channel, because those big air coolers will cover the first ram slot. i dont know what you budget  exacly is, but i would look into something like this.

  1. FX8320 or FX8350
  2. Asus M5A99X evo R2.0 / or if you prefer CF capability´s then the Asus M5A99FX pro R2.0
  3. Corsair H80i

Grtz Angel ☺

I have heard many things about closed loop water coolers(some of them not good), just to clear this up i kinda need a few questions answered about these.

1. Does it have good temps on overclocked cpu's?

2. Does it leak?

3. Will i need thermal paste?

4. Will it fit in the NZXT gamma classic case?

  1. The temps as far as i know are fine, a bit the same as Noctua D14 and Phanteks PH-TC14PE.
  2. Normaly it doesn´t leak, if you install it right.
  3. Thermal paste i dont know if thats included, but probably you allways need to buy a tube.
  4. I think it will fit in allmost every normal ATX case.

like i said above if you dont like LC coolers, then Noctua D14, Phanteks PH-tc14pe, or Xigmatek Dark night hawk, are great aircoolers, but then you probably need to install your ram sticks in slot 2/4

Thanks i think im gonna go with the h80i and get a new mobo.
